As of Jul 11, 2026, the average hourly pay for tarp repair in the United States is $20.50, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $23.08 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by tarp repair technicians, and how can they be addressed on the job?

Tarp repair technicians often encounter challenges such as working with heavily worn or weather-damaged materials, handling repairs in outdoor or less-than-ideal conditions, and meeting tight deadlines for clients who rely on tarps for transport or storage. To address these challenges, technicians typically use specialized tools and materials, follow safety protocols for working at heights or with large tarps, and collaborate closely with team members to ensure efficient workflow. Continuous training on repair techniques and staying updated on the latest products can also help technicians improve outcomes and job satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Tarp Repair Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tarp Repair Technician, you need manual dexterity, attention to detail, and basic knowledge of materials and repair techniques, often gained through on-the-job training or vocational courses. Familiarity with hand tools, industrial sewing machines, heat welders, and patching materials is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, reliability, and clear communication with customers or team members are valuable soft skills. These competencies ensure high-quality repairs, safety, and customer satisfaction in environments where durable tarps are essential.

What are tarp repair specialists?

Tarp repair specialists are professionals who fix and maintain tarpaulins, which are large sheets of strong, flexible material used for covering and protecting objects. Their work involves patching holes, repairing tears, re-sewing seams, and sometimes replacing grommets or fasteners. They use specialized tools and materials to ensure the tarp remains waterproof and durable. Tarp repair specialists often work with truck covers, construction tarps, tents, and other heavy-duty fabric products.

Job description

Roof Repair Team Lead

Alltimate Roofing is hiring a Roof Repair Team Lead to help build and run our dedicated roof repair and service division.

This is a field leadership role for someone who can diagnose roof leaks, explain repair options to homeowners, sell approved repair work, complete repairs with a helper, and document the job properly from start to finish.

We already have a fully outfitted company-wrapped repair van with ladders, tools, shelving, bins, and equipment ready for the right person.

Important Application Step

After applying, please complete our Predictive Index assessment here:

https://assessment.predictiveindex.com/bo/5CJG/AlltimateRepairTeamLead

Applicants who complete the assessment will be prioritized for interviews.

What You’ll Do

  • Run company-assigned roof repair appointments
  • Inspect and diagnose roof leaks and repair issues
  • Explain findings and repair options to homeowners
  • Sell approved repair work using company pricing standards
  • Complete approved repairs independently or with assigned support, depending on job scope, safety requirements, staffing, and management direction.
  • Take before, during, and after photos
  • Upload job notes, photos, approvals, and completion details
  • Keep the repair van, tools, materials, and inventory organized
  • Follow company safety, pricing, documentation, and change order standards
  • Assist with emergency tarp work when needed
  • Report to the office or warehouse during scheduled hours when not in the field

What We’re Looking For

The right person is:

  • Experienced with roofing repairs
  • Comfortable diagnosing leaks and roof problems
  • Able to safely climb ladders and work on roofs
  • Professional with homeowners
  • Comfortable explaining repair options and asking for the sale
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Willing to follow a company process
  • Comfortable using a phone or app for photos and job notes
  • Able to lead and work alongside a helper
  • Reliable, safe, and accountable

This Role Is Not For Someone Who

  • Only wants to install and avoid customers
  • Does not want to document work with photos and notes
  • Wants to do things their own way without following company standards
  • Only wants to work when repair jobs are already scheduled
  • Is not comfortable being responsible for a company van, tools, and materials

Helpful Experience

  • Shingle roof repairs
  • Leak diagnosis
  • Pipe boot replacement
  • Flashing repairs
  • Chimney or wall flashing
  • Valley repairs
  • Skylight leaks
  • Emergency tarping
  • Roofing sales or estimating
  • Customer-facing service work

Compensation

This role offers full-time base compensation up to $60,000 per year, depending on experience, skill level, and fit.

Performance bonus opportunity is available after the initial training period. Bonuses are based on completed and collected repair work, gross profit, close rate, quality of work, documentation, safety, customer satisfaction, collections, and low callback rate.

Top performers may earn additional income through performance bonuses and approved after-hours emergency tarp work.

Final compensation, pay structure, and overtime treatment will be handled according to applicable wage and hour rules.

Schedule

This is a full-time position.

When repair appointments or approved repair jobs are scheduled, the Repair Team Lead will be in the field inspecting, selling, completing, or documenting roof repair work.

When repair appointments are not scheduled, the Repair Team Lead is expected to report to the office or warehouse during scheduled hours to help with van organization, material prep, warehouse organization, tarp readiness, and other service-support needs.

Some early mornings, late afternoons, and occasional Saturday or emergency tarp work may be required depending on weather, customer needs, and repair schedule.

Why This Role Matters

Roof repairs are an important part of our company. Many homeowners need a professional they can trust to properly diagnose and fix roof problems without guessing, overselling, or cutting corners.

This role gives the right person the opportunity to lead a repair team, use a fully outfitted company van, work directly with homeowners, earn performance-based compensation, and help build a serious repair division inside an established roofing company.
