SUMMARY

The Transportation Supervisor oversees daily dispatch operations, ensuring efficient coordination of drivers, loads, routes, and schedules. This role provides mentorship and specified supervisory responsibilities for transportation staff, monitors fleet performance, supports CDL A drivers with real time problem solving, and helps maintain service, safety, and compliance standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Other duties may be assigned, and management retains the discretion to add, delete, or change the duties at any time)

Dispatch & Operations

  • Directly supervise drivers as assigned; Lead, mentor, and support transportation team to meet performance expectations.
  • Coordinate and assign daily loads, routes, and schedules for CDL A drivers.
  • Monitor driver progress, delivery times, and route updates throughout the shift.
  • Respond promptly to issues such as delays, equipment breakdowns, customer changes, or weather impacts.
  • Optimize routing to increase efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Determine types or amounts of equipment, vehicles, or personnel required, according to customer needs

Leadership & Team Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for dispatch staff and provide direction during high volume or complex situations.
  • Train and mentor new transportation staff as needed
  • Support Transportation Operations Manager in providing ongoing performance feedback.
  • Assist with scheduling dispatch coverage to ensure full-time operational support.
  • Act as shift lead, escalating issues to management as needed.

Driver Support

* Communicate clearly and professionally with CDL A drivers regarding load details, expectations, and updates.* Promote a culture of safety and adherence to DOT/FMCSA regulations.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between customers, dispatch, and drivers to maintain accurate delivery windows and service quality.
  • Resolve customer inquiries regarding shipment status, delays, or other concerns.
  • Update internal systems with real time load status and delivery confirmations.
  • Coordinate regularly with the scale room, maintenance, and related teams to support efficient logistics, proper scheduling, and safe equipment operation.
  • Oversee equipment dispatch operations to ensure precise, customer-specific pairing of tractors, trailers, and specialized containers.
  • Leverage in-depth knowledge of diverse fleet assets to ensure optimal truck-trailer-container configurations for customer orders.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Track driver hours, ensuring Hours of Service (HOS) compliance.
  • Maintain accurate logs, dispatch notes, and load records in the TMS (Transportation Management System).
  • Assist in incident reporting and documentation when issues arise.

Technology & Reporting

  • Utilize dispatching and routing software to assign loads and track fleet movement.
  • Run reports on fleet utilization, on time performance, or driver metrics as assigned.
  • Identify trends or areas for operational improvement.
  • Meet target transportation metrics goals.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
