EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

To operate repair equipment, cable armorer, & tape armorer. Tends battery of automatic winding machines that wind protective shield of metal strip into flexible conduit or over insulated wire. Starts winding machine and feeds insulated wire into machine and threads protective wire or strip through guides of automatic winding machine. Observes angle of spiral and adjusts guides. Identify and make repairs to cable units, cores, and jacketed cables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Setup/operation of armoring, taping, & repair machines.
  • Operate a payoff and take-up to rewind cable. Includes loading and unloading reels.
  • Replace missing or damaged wire in cable.
  • Locate electrical failures in cable and units.
  • Remove shields and jacket from finished cable.
  • Perform a Copper tape weld at the Taping Machine Line
  • Weld in a new pad of aluminum strip on the Armoring Line.
  • Load/Unload Take-up/pay off reel
  • Complete cable OD measurement.
  • Complete Armoring tightness test and tension test.
  • Enter output and quality data into PRT system and accurately complete all paperwork.
  • Perform quality checks as required to ensure wire meets UL, customer and plant specifications.
  • Tagging and disposition of non-conforming bobbins.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean work area (general housekeeping).
  • Perform other duties as directed by Supervisor.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Read, write, perform mathematical calculations, understand verbal or written instructions, provide verbal or written information to others, work continuous shift if requested, work scheduled or unscheduled overtime if requested, maintain a good attendance and punctuality record, follow all safety rules and maintain housekeeping in area of responsibility, work well with others, and distinguish colors correctly.

Must be able to move about freely in a heavy industrial environment.

Must be able to qualify as a lift operator.

This position requires standing and walking for most of the shift. This position requires lifting, bending, pushing and pulling. Some pushing of reels will be necessary. Most lifting is accomplished with material handling devices, i.e. reels movers, hoists, etc. Throughout the shift, incumbent must handle reels and tooling weighing 150+ pounds or more.

COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:

  • OJT - Will use company systems – SAP
