What is a tape float?

Tape Float jobs involve the process of floating concrete floors using a power float or trowel to achieve a smooth and level finish. Tape Float workers are responsible for ensuring that concrete surfaces are properly leveled, compacted, and prepared for final finishing. They often use specialized equipment and techniques to remove imperfections and create a durable, even surface. This role is essential in construction, particularly in large flooring projects such as warehouses, factories, and commercial buildings. Attention to detail and knowledge of concrete behavior are important skills for this job.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a tape float?

To thrive as a Tape Float (Drywall Taper), you need proficiency in drywall installation, taping, mudding, and sanding, often gained through experience or an apprenticeship. Familiarity with tools like taping knives, mud pans, automatic tapers, and safety equipment is essential. These skills are crucial for delivering high-quality, durable wall surfaces and meeting project timelines in construction settings.

What are common challenges faced by tape float operators in a manufacturing environment, and how can they be addressed?

Tape Float operators often encounter challenges such as maintaining consistent product quality, troubleshooting minor equipment malfunctions, and managing the pace of production to meet deadlines. Drywall Repair Technician - $23-$30/hr + Weekly Bonus | No Hanging, Home Every Night

PatchitUP of Nashville

Smyrna, TN

$18.75 - $24.50/hr

Full-time

PTO

Job description

TIRED OF HANGING BOARDS?

We don't do new construction. We don't do crews. We don't do 12-foot sheets in a subdivision in July.

PatchitUP does drywall repair — ceiling patches, water damage, texture matching, holes the dog put in the hallway. You'll roll up to a homeowner's house, fix it right, and go to the next one. Two to four jobs a day, in and out, home for dinner.

If you can float a patch that disappears and match a knockdown so nobody can tell where it was, keep reading.

What you'll actually do

  • Repair drywall in occupied homes — patch, tape, float, sand, texture match, and leave it looking like it never happened
  • Walk the homeowner through what you found and what it'll cost, then close it on the spot (we train you on this — you're quoting your own work, not cold-calling)
  • Protect the space, tarp it, clean it up better than you found it
  • Run your day off an iPad — photos, notes, invoice, done
  • Keep your truck stocked and your schedule tight

What you need

  • Real drywall repair experience — tape, float, sand, and match texture (knockdown, orange peel, smooth)
  • The eye to know when a patch isn't good enough yet
  • Comfortable talking to homeowners in their house
  • Valid driver's license, clean record
  • Show up on time, every time

What we give you

  • $23–$30/hr depending on experience, plus weekly bonus on work sold and collected — our top techs push well past base
  • Full-time, 40+ hours, year-round — no seasonal layoffs, no waiting on the next job to break ground
  • Company phone, iPad, uniforms, gas card
  • Company Vehicle
  • PTO, Paid Holidays
  • Paid training through PatchitUP University
  • Service area: Southern Nashville, TN

Apply in 60 seconds. Send your name, your number, and one sentence about the hardest repair you've ever matched. We call every qualified applicant within 24 hours.
