Job description

Cook / Small Plates Prep Position

Schedule: Friday & Saturday Nights, 5:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Pay: $15/hour

Job Description

The Velvet Tango Room is looking for someone to join our team and fill a dedicated position in our small plates kitchen. This role contributes to the overall guest experience of our cocktail lounge by preparing beautifully presented food items that complement our handcrafted cocktails.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, reliable, and takes pride in maintaining a clean and efficient workspace. We are looking for someone who works well independently while also being a team player who communicates effectively with the rest of the staff.

This is not a traditional line cook position. Our kitchen does not operate with a stove, oven, or full-service cooking equipment. Instead, this role focuses on preparation, plating, presentation, and execution of items such as meat and cheese boards and a rotating selection of small plates.

The right candidate understands that presentation, consistency, cleanliness, and attention to detail are just as important as preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, sanitized, and well-organized kitchen.
  • Set up and maintain workstations before and during service.
  • Prepare and arrange meat and cheese boards and other small plates.
  • Follow recipes, plating standards, and presentation guidelines.
  • Prepare ingredients using proper techniques.
  • Check the freshness and quality of ingredients.
  • Properly store, label, and rotate food products.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and supplies.
  • Wash and organize dishes, utensils, and kitchen tools as needed.
  • Keep the kitchen clean throughout service and complete closing duties.
  • Communicate with bartenders and staff to ensure smooth service.

Job Requirements

  • Must understand and follow food safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness while working efficiently.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize during busy service.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Reliability and consistency are required.

This position is perfect for someone who enjoys food preparation, creativity, organization, and being part of a passionate hospitality team without the demands of a traditional restaurant kitchen.

The Velvet Tango Room stands as a steward of the classic cocktail tradition. Our bartenders practice a rare, time-honored craft — one built on patience, precision, technique, and an unwavering commitment to balance.
Creating a truly exceptional cocktail requires more than following a recipe. It requires care, attention to detail, and respect for the ingredients and methods that have defined great cocktails for generations. The result is unmistakable — once you experience a VTR cocktail, the standard is forever raised.
By combining classic techniques with thoughtful innovation, we present timeless cocktails at their very best.
At the Velvet Tango Room, we do not simply make cocktails — we preserve and celebrate a craft.
