What is a tailwind developer?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a front-end developer using Tailwind CSS, and why are they important?
What are some common challenges faced by tailwind developers when optimizing CSS for large-scale projects?
What is the difference between Tailwind vs CSS Developer?
| Aspect | Tailwind | CSS Developer |
|---|---|---|
| Required credentials | Knowledge of utility-first CSS framework, basic HTML | Proficiency in CSS, HTML, possibly JavaScript |
| Work environment | Front-end development, UI/UX design | Web development, front-end or full-stack roles |
| Industry usage | Popular in modern web projects, startups, agencies | Universal across web development projects |
| Common search intent | Comparing CSS frameworks, styling approaches | Understanding CSS skills, job requirements |
While a Tailwind developer specializes in using the Tailwind CSS framework to rapidly build user interfaces, a CSS Developer has broader expertise in traditional CSS, styling, and layout techniques. Both roles require a solid understanding of HTML and CSS, but Tailwind developers focus on utility classes and rapid styling, whereas CSS Developers may write custom CSS for more complex or unique designs.

Key responsibilities
Design and prototype application screens, wireframes, and interaction flows in Figma.
Translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect, responsive React and Next.js components.
Build and maintain RESTful APIs using Python or Node.js, and set up CI/CD pipelines for deployment.
Job description
We are looking for a technically strong Senior Full Stack Developer with 6+ years of hands-on experience building scalable, production-grade web applications. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable designing UI mockups in Figma, building responsive React/Next.js frontends, architecting RESTful APIs in Python or Node.js, and owning the CI/CD pipelines that ship it all. You will work across the full delivery lifecycle - from blank canvas to production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and prototype application screens, wireframes, and interaction flows in Figma.
- Translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect, responsive React and Next.js components.
- Implement robust state management using Redux, Zustand, React Query, or Context API.
- Consume and integrate REST APIs, handling loading, error, and edge-case states in the UI.
- Ensure cross-browser compatibility, accessibility (WCAG), and mobile responsiveness.
- Maintain component libraries and enforce design-system consistency across products.
- Design and build RESTful APIs using Python (FastAPI / Flask / Django) and Node.js (Express / NestJS).
- Model and manage relational and non-relational databases; write optimised queries and migrations.
- Implement authentication, authorisation, and security best practices (OAuth 2.0, JWT, RBAC).
- Build reusable services, middleware, and shared libraries consumed across applications.
- Perform code reviews and enforce backend coding standards, error handling, and logging.
- Bootstrap new projects from scratch: repository structure, tooling, linting, testing scaffolds.
- Define and document architecture decisions (ADRs) for new applications.
- Evaluate and select appropriate frameworks, libraries, and cloud services for each use case.
- Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or equivalent).
- Containerise applications with Docker; manage multi-service environments with Docker Compose.
- Deploy and configure cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP (compute, storage, networking).
- Automate UI and API deployment workflows including build, test, lint, security scan, and release gates.
- Monitor application health, set up alerting, and respond to production incidents.
Required Skills:
- React.js (Hooks, functional components, performance patterns)
- Next.js (SSR, SSG, ISR, App Router, API routes)
- State management - Redux / Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or React Query
- TypeScript - strong typing across components, hooks, and API contracts
- HTML5, CSS3, Tailwind CSS or CSS Modules; responsive and accessible design
- Figma - design, prototyping, component library creation, and design handoff
- Python - FastAPI, Flask, or Django REST Framework; async patterns
- Node.js - Express or NestJS; REST API design and middleware patterns
- RESTful API design principles; OpenAPI / Swagger documentation
- SQL (PostgreSQL / MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB / Redis)
- Authentication & authorisation: OAuth 2.0, JWT, session management
- Git (branching strategies: GitFlow, trunk-based); PR workflows and code review
- Docker and Docker Compose; basic Kubernetes familiarity is a plus
- CI/CD tooling: GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or CircleCI
- Cloud platforms: AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS) or Azure or GCP
- Testing: Jest, Vitest, React Testing Library (frontend); Pytest, Supertest (backend)
- Package management via JFrog Artifactory (organisation standard - npm and PyPI are not permitted)
Qualifications:
- 6+ years of professional full stack development experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Demonstrable portfolio or codebase showing end-to-end ownership (design ? deploy)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work across cross-functional teams
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with GraphQL or gRPC alongside REST APIs
- Familiarity with micro-frontend or monorepo architectures (Nx, Turborepo)
- Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS CDK)
- Exposure to observability tooling (Datadog, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
- Contributions to open-source projects or published npm / PyPI packages
