Overview RN Clinical Charge Nurse hired for Night shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) directs and oversees daily unit activities to ensure safe delivery of care. Works within a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and a shared governance model, guided by the WellStar Professional Nursing Practice Model and evidence-based practice. Demonstrates accountability, teamwork, delegation, communication, respect, personal development, and leadership responsibilities that support efficient resource use and quality patient care.

The role includes serving as a resource to other areas, supporting operational functionality, and assisting in the growth and development of team members. Licensure and compliance with the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics are expected. The individual upholds patient voice, system policies, and service excellence goals while providing age-appropriate, culturally aware care.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Resources and Support: Monitors equipment inventory, location, and utilization to ensure staff have tools and equipment needed to perform their job.

Resources and Support: Participates in planning and requesting resources for high-quality care and assists in acquiring appropriate staffing during unexpected shortages or surges in census.

Tactical Responsibilities: Proactively plans for patient care across the care continuum during direct patient care; develops protocols and procedures in collaboration with care managers to achieve best practice outcomes (e.g., reduced readmissions, fewer avoidable days, fewer adverse events).

Tactical Responsibilities: Make patient assignments; consider new graduates, float staff, and patient types; daily discharge/length of stay review; rounds with physicians/surgeons; coordinate bed allocation with the surgery schedule; consult with Nurse Administration on bed flow and availability; manage emergency service assignments and waiting room coverage.

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes: Conduct rounds on each patient daily to evaluate care quality and take corrective action; oversee nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence-based practice; ensure individualized care and effective coordination.

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes: Deliver relationship-based, patient-centered care with hand-off communication; promote interdisciplinary evaluation and planned teaching; keep patients informed with appropriate communication tools; align care with patient goals. Exemplary Practice and Outcomes: Practice current clinical standards with a focus on safety and quality; in the Emergency Department, perform modified rounds with nurses to focus on safety concerns.

Teamwork and Collaboration: Communicate needs or concerns to nurse management; promote safe, quality care with interdisciplinary planning and documentation; foster a respectful, inclusive clinical environment; participate in interdisciplinary rounds (where applicable).

Teamwork and Collaboration: Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and support recruitment and retention of health care team members; participate in performance improvement, including stakeholder engagement and shared governance.

Professional Development: Ensure patient/family/staff confidentiality and compliance; serve as a preceptor/mentor to other nurses and staff to develop a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment. Evidence Based Practice and Research: Promote evidence-based practice and nursing research; participate in value analysis and ensure compliance with organizational policies, standards, and accreditation requirements; contribute to data collection and address practice questions with appropriate resources.

Qualifications

Required

Minimum Education: Associate Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing OR Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.

Required

Minimum Licenses/Certifications: All certifications required upon hire unless stated otherwise. BLS (Basic Life Support) or ARC-BLS; BLS-Instructor optional; RN license (single state) or Multi-State Compact (compact license).

Required

Minimum Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience; or Minimum 2 years preferred with experience as relief charge and clinical expertise.
