Basic understanding of these tools can be beneficial but is not always mandatory for entry-level roles.

Are Tableau developers in demand?

Tableau developers are in high demand due to the increasing need for data visualization and business intelligence solutions across industries. Organizations seek professionals skilled in Tableau, data analysis, and dashboard creation to support data-driven decision-making, leading to strong job growth and competitive salaries in this field.

What are Tableau Developers?

Tableau Developers are professionals who specialize in creating, managing, and optimizing data visualizations using Tableau software. They work with data sources to design interactive dashboards and reports that help organizations analyze and interpret complex data. Tableau Developers often collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and ensure that data insights are accessible, actionable, and visually compelling.

Is Tableau still in demand?

Tableau Developer roles remain in demand as organizations seek data visualization and business intelligence skills to analyze complex data. Proficiency in Tableau, along with knowledge of SQL and data modeling, enhances job prospects in this field, which is valued across various industries for decision-making support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Tableau Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tableau Developer, you need strong skills in data analysis, visualization, and proficiency with SQL, often supported by a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Familiarity with Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, and certification such as Tableau Desktop Specialist are commonly required, along with experience in data warehousing and ETL processes. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you translate business requirements into actionable, insightful dashboards. These skills ensure the delivery of meaningful, accurate visualizations that drive data-informed decision-making in organizations.

What Does a Tableau Developer Do?

Tableau software collects and translates large amounts of data into easy-to-read, interactive platforms. These platforms enable businesses to analyze and interpret results from various aspects of their company. Tableau developers are specialized programmers who create tailored reports that assist companies in meeting their goals. These programmers understand the importance of the ETL (extract, transform, load) process of transferring data from the primary source to a new location and know how to organize and use that data in productive ways.

What are some common challenges Tableau Developers face when working with large datasets, and how can they address them?

Tableau Developers often encounter performance issues when visualizing large datasets, such as slow dashboard loading times and laggy interactivity. To address these challenges, developers can optimize data extracts, use efficient calculations, and limit the number of visualizations on a single dashboard. Collaborating closely with data engineers to ensure proper data modeling and leveraging Tableau's built-in performance optimization tools are also key strategies. Staying proactive about these challenges helps deliver fast, interactive, and insightful dashboards to stakeholders.

What is the difference between Tableau Developer vs Data Analyst?

AspectTableau DeveloperData Analyst
Primary FocusDesigning and developing Tableau dashboards and visualizationsAnalyzing data sets to identify trends and insights
Skills & CertificationsProficiency in Tableau, SQL, data modeling, and visualization toolsStrong Excel, SQL, statistical analysis, and data interpretation skills
Work EnvironmentOften part of BI or data teams, working closely with developers and business usersCollaborates across departments to interpret data and support decision-making
Industry UsageCommon in finance, healthcare, retail, and tech sectorsWidely used across industries for data-driven insights

While both roles involve working with data, Tableau Developers focus on creating visual dashboards using Tableau, whereas Data Analysts analyze data to generate insights. The roles often overlap, but their core responsibilities differ in emphasis on visualization versus analysis.

Job description

Agility's commercially deployed humanoids operate alongside teams in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers-tackling physically demanding and repetitive tasks while enabling workers to focus on higher-value work. With industry-leading safety standards and years of proven deployment data, we're pioneering a new era of automation that enhances human potential.
About The Role
Join the team building the data backbone for fleet-scale humanoid robotics. As a Software Engineer III on our Data Platform team, you will implement and scale the infrastructure required to ingest, process, and synchronize massive datasets from our robots. You will focus on the technical challenges of handling multimodal log data-ensuring that high-frequency sensor data, video feeds, and telemetry are perfectly aligned for playback and ML training.
Key Responsibilities
  • Data Ingestion: Design and implement scalable data pipelines for ingesting and processing telemetry, logs and sensor data from our fleet of robots and associated cloud software
  • Multimodal Data Integration: Develop systems to handle complex multimodal logs, ensuring precise synchronization between video, audio, IMU, and joint-state data for downstream analysis and robot "black box" reconstruction/playback.
  • Edge Data Agents: Contribute to the development of data ingestion agents running on-robot to manage high-volume data throughput in variable connectivity environments.
  • Data Optimization: Implement and optimize data formats (e.g., MCAP, Parquet) specifically tuned for the storage and rapid querying of rich multimodal robotics recordings.
  • Observability systems: Develop and maintain observability systems using tools like fluentbit, OpenTelemetry etc enabling real-time monitoring and analytics of fleet operations.
  • Distributed Processing: Use Spark, Kafka, or Flink to transform raw robot data into structured datasets ready for business intelligence and long-horizon fleet analytics.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with AI and Hardware teams to ensure data tools meet the needs of those training the next generation of humanoid models.
  • Cloud Platform: Build and optimize tools for internal stakeholders for business intelligence and long-horizon fleet analytics and forecasting using existing tools like AWS S3, Athena, Sagemaker etc.
Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience building and scaling cloud-based data platforms(AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Big Data Tech: Proficient in big data frameworks like Spark, Kafka, Beam, Flink etc
  • Data Formats: Familiarity with OSS data formats like Parquet, Arrow, Iceberg and protocols like Avro and Protobuf.
  • Experience with observability tools(e.g. OpenTelemetry, Prometheus etc) and implementing metrics, tracing and logging systems
  • Strong proficiency in Python and at least one JVM language (Java or Scala), with experience in microservices.
  • Proven experience handling diverse data types-specifically combining unstructured data (logs/video) with structured telemetry
Bonus Qualifications
  • Robotics/AV Background: Experience with robot-specific data formats (MCAP, ROS bags) and visualization tools like Foxglove or RVIZ.
  • Sensor Fusion: Understanding of time-sync challenges in multimodal data (e.g., PTP/NTP synchronization across sensors).
  • Infrastructure: Experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployment patterns.
  • Systems Programming: Familiarity with C++ or Rust for high-performance data handling at the edge.
  • IoT Knowledge: Experience with edge computing, Greengrass, or managing data from embedded devices.

This a hybrid position based out of one of our Salem, Pittsburgh, or Fremont offices.
