How much do t cell jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 10, 2026, the average hourly pay for t cell in the United States is $21.64, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.83 and $27.16 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a T cell immunologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a T Cell immunologist, you need a solid background in immunology, molecular biology, and research methodologies, typically supported by an advanced degree such as a PhD. Proficiency with flow cytometry, cell sorting, CRISPR gene editing, and bioinformatics tools is commonly required. Critical thinking, attention to detail, and strong collaboration skills help individuals excel in experimental design and team-based research. These abilities are essential for advancing scientific understanding and developing novel immunotherapies targeting T cells.

What are some common challenges faced by T cell therapy researchers in a laboratory setting?

T cell therapy researchers often encounter challenges such as optimizing cell isolation and expansion protocols, maintaining cell viability, and ensuring the reproducibility of experimental results. Additionally, working with T cells requires strict adherence to sterile techniques and careful handling to prevent contamination. Collaboration with immunologists, clinicians, and biotechnologists is also crucial, as many projects are interdisciplinary and require frequent communication to align research objectives.

What is a T cell?

T cells, or T lymphocytes, are a type of white blood cell that play a crucial role in the immune system. They help protect the body from infections and can recognize and destroy infected or cancerous cells. T cells are developed in the thymus gland and are essential for adaptive immunity, which tailors the body's immune response to specific pathogens. There are several types of T cells, including helper T cells, cytotoxic T cells, and regulatory T cells, each with specialized functions.

What is the difference between T Cell vs B Cell?

Both T Cells and B Cells are vital components of the immune system, sharing similar credentials and work environments. T Cells primarily attack infected cells directly, while B Cells produce antibodies to neutralize pathogens. Understanding their distinct roles helps in choosing the right career path in immunology or healthcare research.

Job description

Legend Biotech is a global biotechnology company dedicated to treating and, one day, curing life-threatening diseases. Headquartered in Bridgewater, New Jersey, we are advancing the next generation of cell therapy through a portfolio of innovative technologies, including autologous, allogeneic, and in vivo cell therapy approaches. Our research spans chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T), T-cell receptor (TCR-T), natural killer (NK) cell-based therapies, and other emerging platforms designed to transform the treatment of serious diseases. From our global network of research and development sites, we are committed to discovering and developing safe, effective, and cutting-edge therapies for patients worldwide.
Legend Biotech entered into a global collaboration agreement with Johnson & Johnson to jointly develop and commercialize CARVYKTI® (ciltacabtagene autoleucel; cilta-cel). Through this strategic partnership, we combine complementary expertise and capabilities to advance innovative immunotherapies for patients living with multiple myeloma.
Legend Biotech is seeking a Scientist, Solid Tumor CAR-T as part of the Research and Development team based in Philadelphia, PA.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our interdisciplinary cell therapy team at Legend Biotech, focused on advancing CAR-T cell therapies for solid tumors. This role is central to our in vivo CAR-T platform and will drive preclinical development from construct design through animal model efficacy studies.
The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Immunology, Immuno-Oncology, or a closely related discipline, with up to 3 years of postdoctoral experience. You are a rigorous scientist who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about translating basic immunology insights into transformative oncology therapies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute in vitro CAR-T functional assays.
  • Perform comprehensive phenotypic analysis of T cell differentiation, activation, and memory subsets.
  • Evaluate CAR-T cell trafficking and tumor infiltration in vivo using flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry.
  • Handling and engineering human and murine T cells as well as various cancer cells.
  • Engineering and maintaining various cancer cell lines for model development.
  • Analyze and interpret data, troubleshooting, maintain detailed experimental records.

Requirements
  • A scientist in Immunology, Immuno-Oncology, Tumor Immunology, Cancer Biology, or a closely related field.
  • Candidates completing ther PhD within the past 3 years are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Primary human T cell isolation, activation, lentiviral transduction, and expansion is required.
  • Multicolor flow cytometry: panel design, data acquisition (e.g., Attune,Novocyte, Cytek Aurora), and analysis (FlowJo).
  • Standard molecular biology: PCR/qPCR, lentiviral vector packaging and titration, Western blot.
  • Experience with humanized mouse models for in vivo CAR-T evaluation.
  • Proficiency in CAR-T cell trafficking studies: IHC/IF of tumor sections, in vivo imaging.
  • Familiarity with gene editing tools (CRISPR/Cas9) for cell engineering.
  • Experience with in vitro Organoid cancer model establishment and expansion.
  • Experience in solid tumor indications (e.g., lung, gastric, or other refractory cancers).
  • Contributions to innovation in cell therapy (publications, patents, or conference presentations).
