Leveraging Ford's century of manufacturing excellence and world-class battery energy storage systems (BESS) technology, Ford Energy designs, manufactures, and services grid-scale and commercial DC battery energy storage systems (BESS). Ford Energy is uniquely positioned to capture the growing demand for reliable, US-built energy storage systems. We are not just building batteries; we are building the infrastructure for the next generation of the American grid.
Why Ford Energy?
At Ford Energy, you have the backing of an industrial manufacturing powerhouse with the agility of a dedicated energy startup offering industry leading technology. We offer a competitive compensation package including performance-based bonuses, Ford vehicle discounts, and the opportunity to shape the energy strategy of one of the world's most iconic brands.
In this position...
The Senior Engineer, PCS / EMS Integration will serve as Ford Energy's hands-on Senior Engineer for the integration of Power Conversion Systems (PCS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and Battery Management Systems (BMS). This role is responsible for supporting the technical foundation for product execution and field readiness. You will operate with high technical independence, delivering technical integration deliverables and serving as the key technical interface between suppliers, commissioning teams, and engineering partners to ensure long-term platform robustness.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
  • Integration & System Architecture
    • Execute technical integration strategy for PCS, EMS, and BMS interfaces across the BESS portfolio.
    • Lead hands-on interface definition, signal mapping, and control sequence validation.
    • Resolve technical integration gaps with suppliers, EMS vendors, and system integrators.
    • Support plant controls, SCADA, telemetry, and remote command execution as part of the site-level solution.
  • Controls Software & Release Management
    • Contribute to controls software design, release, and configuration management for PCS and EMS functionality.
    • Define system operating logic and expected behavior across all operating modes, fault conditions, and recovery states.
    • Develop and maintain technical documentation, test evidence, and software release artifacts.
  • Validation & Field Readiness
    • Plan and execute integration tests, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and field verification.
    • Support commissioning and after-sales teams with site readiness, technical issue triage, and field troubleshooting.
    • Lead root cause investigations for software, controls, and communications issues to drive permanent closure.
  • Compliance & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Support compliance and certification efforts (UL, IEC, IEEE) related to BESS controls and interconnection.
    • Work with test laboratories and independent engineering organizations to support technical reviews.
    • Interface directly with internal and external executive-level customers to provide clear technical recommendations.

Qualifications
You'll have...
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Power Electronics, or Systems Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in BESS, energy storage, power electronics, or controls integration.
  • Strong practical experience with PCS, EMS, BMS, SCADA, and site-level control systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, validation, and release of controls software.
  • Strong knowledge of communications protocols, fault handling, and interface control.

Even better, you may have...
  • Master's degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Direct experience with utility-scale BESS deployment and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with applicable IEC, UL, IEEE, and NFPA standards.
  • Experience with software baselining and configuration management in complex systems.
  • Background in automotive embedded software or industrial automation.
  • Leadership Attributes
    • Hands-on Problem Solver who thrives in testing, debugging, and customer-facing technical challenges.
    • Senior contributor capable of owning deliverables and driving technical alignment without close supervision.
    • Collaborative Interface who can bridge the gap between suppliers, test houses, and internal engineering teams.
    • Accountable Technical Lead with a focus on deployment readiness and long-term system robustness.
  • Location & Travel
    • Flexible Location: This position is hybrid-friendly for candidates with a proven ability to deliver results outside of a traditional office environment.
    • Travel Expectations: This role requires occasional travel to support suppliers, test houses, commissioning, and customer sites.
