Job Summary
The Engineering Manager leads an engineering group of 8-10 staff, ensuring departmental goals, project objectives, and resource needs are met. Responsibilities include managing the group budget, staffing, and performance, as well as overseeing requirements development, requirements management, and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices across programs. The role establishes and tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) and technical performance measures (TPMs) to drive quality and execution. Additional duties include developing process and evaluation criteria, identifying emerging technical issues, and reporting project status. The manager maintains a strong understanding of Sparton's business goals and provides the technical leadership needed to achieve them.
Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Provide direction and leadership and/or mentoring to the engineering group.
  • Writes and administers performance appraisals and performance improvement plans as required.
  • May interface directly with customers through presentations, meetings, or other communication media to represent Sparton.
  • Establish measurements for departmental goals with matrices and trend charts.
  • Present group status in program reviews and monthly reports.
  • Assigns specific job tasks to engineers and teams for completion as well as monitor progress.
  • Identify training requirements for personnel within the group to assure knowledge base for policies, procedures, concurrent engineering, root cause analysis, trend charts and corrective action.
  • Determine requirements for materials, and or equipment for engineering projects and ensure all required tooling, equipment and materials are available for the engineering group.
  • Uses Sparton policies and procedures to complete work assignments and assures group employees adhere to the Sparton policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience & License or Certification
  • BS Engineering MS preferred
  • 8+ years' experience

Skills and Abilities
  • US Citizenship is required
  • Must be eligible to hold and maintain a Government Security Clearance
  • Proficient in software applications specific to job requirements.
