Bullhorn is looking for a strategic technical leader to join our Technical Operations team as a Manager of Systems Engineering. This is a leadership role within the Technical Operations organization. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of systems engineers who build, implement, troubleshoot, and manage products and solutions for Bullhorn's production environment, while ensuring 24/7 availability and high performance. You will balance hands-on technical contributions with people management, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate will have proven technical expertise, demonstrated leadership capability, and a track record of building high-performing teams in fast-paced SaaS environments.
As a Manager, Systems Engineering, you will:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of systems engineers across multiple experience levels (SE I through Senior SE III)
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies to build a world-class systems engineering team
  • Partner with senior leadership to define and execute the systems engineering roadmap aligned with business objectives
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, system reliability, and scalability
  • Lead cross-functional infrastructure projects from planning through execution
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and tools to improve team productivity and system performance
  • Ensure 24/7 availability of production environments through effective team scheduling, incident response, and on-call management
  • Drive accountability for SLAs, system performance metrics, and operational KPIs
  • Lead major incident response efforts and facilitate blameless postmortems to drive systemic improvements
  • Establish and enforce standards for documentation, runbooks, change management, and operational procedures
  • Manage relationships with cross-functional partners including Development, QA, Customer Support, Professional Services, and Security

As a Manager, Systems Engineering, You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, ITIL, etc.) are a plus
  • 3+ years of people management experience, leading technical teams in SaaS or high-availability environment
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or DevOps roles
  • Expertise in Linux-based systems administration (required) and Windows Server (highly preferred)
  • Strong understanding of SaaS architecture, multi-tenant environments, and production operations at scale
  • Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Exposure to containerization and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Experience with Java-based applications, application servers (Tomcat, JBoss), and performance tuning
  • Scripting abilities in Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages
  • Demonstrated ability to build and execute technical roadmaps aligned with business goals
  • Experience managing incident response, change management, and compliance in production environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risk and make data-driven decisions
  • Experience with automation, monitoring, and observability platforms (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic)
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls)
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into business impact and communicate effectively with non-technical audiences
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

The annual base salary range for this position is $112,626 - 135,000. In addition, this role is eligible for an annual target bonus & a comprehensive benefits package.
