With more than four decades of expertise providing painted metal coils and toll processing services for industries in the construction and consumer product markets, we pride ourselves on delivering premium quality, reliable service, and ongoing innovation to our customers.

BlueScope Coated Products is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to provide leadership for process engineering across seven coil coating lines. This role is responsible for overseeing multiple production lines and driving measurable improvements in safety, quality, reliability, and overall performance through effective engineering leadership and collaboration.

The Engineering Manager develops a thorough understanding of BCP coating line processes and applies that knowledge to identify improvement opportunities, support operational excellence, and sustain performance gains. This role works closely with the Director of Engineering and internal and external technical experts to benchmark best practices, assess performance, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

This is a highly hands-on, field-based leadership position requiring regular and sustained presence on the shop floor to observe operations & teams, directly support troubleshooting, and leading overall project execution and implementation. The Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring engineering solutions are effectively designed, implemented, integrated into plant operations, and sustained over time.

This position requires extensive travel (>75%) across all 7 BCP locations.

Key Focus Areas

  • Establish and maintain standardized process engineering practices across all sites.
  • Ensure consistent definition, monitoring, and control of critical process parameters across all lines.
  • Recognize that each line has unique equipment and constraints, while ensuring alignment on core process fundamentals and performance expectations.
  • Drive a unified approach to process control, while allowing for site-specific engineering solutions where required.
  • Build technical capability within the team and ensure strong process ownership at each facility.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, IT, the Director of Engineering, and industry experts.

Line Ownership & Technical Leadership

  • Develop deep operational understanding of all seven coil coating lines.
  • Act as a technical authority for coating line performance, stability, and control systems.

  • Execute full project lifecycle including:
    • Scope development and technical definition
    • Vendor selection and coordination
    • Installation and field execution
    • Commissioning, startup, and performance validation
    • Handover to operations with full documentation and training
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and with sustained results, not just startup success.

Automation, Controls & Systems Expertise
