Job description

Overview


Report directly to the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing and managing the design and detail engineering activities of industrial electrical equipment and products, including development of electrical drawings, sizing of electrical components, preparation of bill of materials, and technical supports for other departments. Working knowledge with CSA and UL standard, hazardous location classification and requirement is required. PLC programming knowledge and/or experience is preferred. This position requires full-time onsite presence every day for close interaction with the fabrication and engineering teams at our manufacturing facility.


Primary Duties


Team Leadership & Employee Management
- Directly manage Electrical/CAD design team located in Oakville.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on the design, specification, and implementation of electrical systems and control panels.
- Delegate and schedule assignments for the team.
- Responsible for monitoring job performance, reviewing training requirements, and identifying career development goals for direct reports.
- Provide status update to the Engineering Manager and Project Management Team.
- Collaborate and work closely with colleagues in North America, Europe and Asia to review and finalize electrical schematics, layouts, single-line diagrams, and control system designs.

Engineering/Technical Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and approve drawings, bills of materials, and other engineering documentations.
- Review and interpret project specifications, engineering codes, and standards to ensure compliance during all phases of the design and manufacturing process.
- Issue technical documents and drawing packages for the manufacture of products.
- Provide engineering and technical support to Internal (Sales, Production, Purchasing, and Quality departments) and external clients.
- Participate in client meetings, kick-off meetings, design review meetings, operation meetings
- Ensure that all electrical control panels meet regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and internal quality standards.
- Respond to any inquiries in a time sensitive manner to ensure the maintenance of delivery deadlines.
- Follow all company procedures.
- Participate in the commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, both remotely and on-site when required.
- Maintain computer data, files, and document records.

Safety
- Ensure a safe workplace, including compliance with established safety laws, regulations, codes, policies, and procedures.

Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SEE Electrical and/or SOLIDWORKS Electrical.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial working experience with a focus on power systems, control systems and automation.
- Working knowledge with PLC programming is preferred.
- Familiar with the following codes and standards is preferred:
Canadian Electrical Code, CSA 22.1, CSA 22.2 No.14, 25, 30
NFPA 70, 496
UL 508, 508A, 698, 698A
Applicable IEC standards for both unclassified area and hazardous area (IEC 60079-0 & 60079-1)
ATEX, Low Voltage, EMC directives

Skills
- Able to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong written, communication skills and the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
- Familiarity with Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong electrical design background and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of ERP systems used in manufacturing is preferred.
