Job Summary:

The Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex systems to support program and organizational goals. This role takes a holistic view throughout the system lifecycle, from concept development, requirements capture and design, through integration, verification, operations and disposal. The systems engineer is the primary interface among management, customers, suppliers, and specialty disciplines, ensuring all stakeholder needs and constraints are properly understood and addressed. Ensures that all systems function efficiently and effectively, aligning with business objectives. The Systems Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance.


Key Responsibilities:

System Design & Implementation:

  • Design, develop, and implement system architectures that meet performance, scalability, and security requirements
  • Customer needs analysis, requirements capture and management, OPSCON/CONOPS development, traceability throughout from system to component level, modeling and simulation, verification criteria, requirements sell-off, deployment validation, O&M documentation
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance system capabilities and performance
  • Ensure system designs align with security, compliance, and industry best practices

System Maintenance & Optimization:

  • Perform regular system maintenance, updates, and upgrades to ensure stability and security
  • Analyze system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency
  • Develop and implement system testing protocols to validate functionality and security

Troubleshooting & Support:

  • Diagnose and resolve system issues to minimize downtime and operational disruptions
  • Provide technical support for network, hardware, and software configurations
  • Document system issues, resolutions, and preventative measures to enhance future troubleshooting efforts

Project Management & Collaboration:

  • Manages and trades off performance, cost, schedule, risk and other system attributes to achieve an optimal solution that meets stakeholder needs and aligns with organizational goals
  • Manage system integration projects, ensuring seamless deployment and interoperability of technologies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess system requirements and provide technical solutions
  • Work with stakeholders to prioritize system enhancements and align program goals

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Create and maintain detailed system documentation, including technical specifications, configurations, and user manuals
  • Ensure compliance with security standards, data protection policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field required
  • Experience:
    • Journeyman: 3-10 years of experience in systems engineering or a related field
    • Subject Matter Expert (SME): 15+ years of experience in systems engineering or a related field
  • Clearance: Secret, TS/SCI Preferred
  • Required Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of system design, integration, and architecture.
  • Experience with system security, data protection protocols, and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in network infrastructure, cloud computing, and virtualization technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage complex systems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting languages for system management.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with IT service management frameworks such as ITIL.
  • Certifications in systems engineering (e.g., CCNA, MCSE, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are a plus.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Office environment with occasional on-site work in data centers or with hardware systems.
  • May require after-hours or weekend work to address critical system issues or deployments.
  • Some travel may be necessary to support system installations or meet with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of IT equipment or hardware components (up to 25 lbs).

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position, typically working 40 hours per week. Overtime may be required depending on operational needs.
