Job description

Responsibilities
Sentinel is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support and enhance our clients on-premise infrastructure environment. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in SAN storage, virtualization, and infrastructure management, along with working knowledge of networking and exposure to AWS.
You will work closely with an existing engineer, with responsibilities overlapping approximately 70-75% of the time. This role is hybrid with an onsite location in Troy, MI. This position is contract to hire located in Troy, MI.
Responsibilities include:
  • Manage and maintain on-premises infrastructure including servers, hosts, clusters, and virtual machines
  • SAN storage systems (experience with older SAN technologies a plus)
  • Oversee and troubleshoot virtualization environments (VMware or similar)
  • Support and optimize storage architecture and capacity planning
  • Administer switches and networking components; strong networking understanding is essential
  • Contribute to backup processes (potential transition to Sentinel for backup automation)
  • Participate in initiatives to simplify and modernize infrastructure (with CLI-based systems still in use)
  • Collaborate with internal engineering partners on shared responsibilities
  • Participate in occasional travel for special projects (rare)

Qualifications
  • 5-7+ years of hands-on experience with SAN equipment and storage technologies
  • Strong experience managing virtual environments (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of networking, switching, and related infrastructure
  • Experience with AWS (a few years minimum)
  • Proficiency with servers, clustering, and host-level administration
  • Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment and respond onsite as needed
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Must demonstrate a "can-do" attitude
