Summary
The Systems Engineer III serves as a senior technical resource responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and support of enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, and critical business systems. This role leads complex infrastructure initiatives, drives automation and operational excellence, mentors junior engineers, and provides advanced troubleshooting and architectural guidance across multiple technologies. The Systems Engineer III operates with a high degree of autonomy while partnering with business and technology teams to ensure secure, scalable, and highly available systems.
Compensation
$115k - $130K base + 10% yearly bonus target
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of enterprise infrastructure solutions, including Linux and Windows servers, storage, virtualization, cloud platforms, networking, and identity services.
  • Serve as the technical lead and subject matter expert for multiple core technologies, providing advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex Linux, Windows, cloud, and infrastructure issues.
  • Architect and implement automation, monitoring, alerting, patch management, and configuration management solutions across Linux and Windows environments to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Lead infrastructure modernization projects, including cloud adoption, Linux and Windows system migrations, disaster recovery improvements, security enhancements, and capacity planning initiatives.
  • Develop technical standards, architecture documentation, operational procedures, and best practices for Linux, Windows, cloud, and enterprise infrastructure platforms.
  • Mentor Systems Engineers and technical staff through training, knowledge sharing, and project leadership while serving as an escalation resource.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologies and infrastructure solutions that align with organizational objectives and future growth.

Qualifications & Requirements
Required Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in systems engineering, infrastructure administration, or related technical roles.
  • Advanced experience administering Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, and enterprise infrastructure platforms.
  • Strong experience administering Linux server environments, including system configuration, networking, storage, user and permission management, package management, service management, logging, performance tuning, and security hardening.
  • Strong experience supporting cloud environments, preferably AWS.
  • Advanced knowledge of virtualization technologies, storage systems such as SAN/NAS, networking, Linux and Windows server infrastructure, and enterprise systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing highly available, resilient enterprise systems across Linux, Windows, on-premises, and cloud environments.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure automation, scripting, or configuration management tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, Terraform, Ansible, or similar technologies.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, access management, vulnerability remediation, Linux and Windows hardening, and infrastructure security best practices.

Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure
  • AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, VMware, Microsoft, Linux, or equivalent infrastructure certifications.
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments with both Linux and Windows workloads.
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and business continuity initiatives.
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
  • Experience with containers and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Linux distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, or Debian.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex technical initiatives and infrastructure projects.
  • Advanced analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve highly complex Linux, Windows, cloud, and infrastructure issues.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, systems integration, infrastructure scalability, and cross-platform interoperability.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong mentoring, coaching, and knowledge-sharing capabilities.
  • Ability to balance operational support responsibilities while managing multiple concurrent strategic initiatives.
  • Ability to design, automate, secure, and operate reliable infrastructure across Linux, Windows, on-premises, and cloud environments.

Working Conditions
Must be able to perform essential job duties. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each workday), hear the telephone, and enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
