Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Engineering Manager to join our innovative Phantom Works (PW) organization in Berkeley, MO.

We are looking for a dynamic, visionary leader to oversee the day-to-day activities of a combined Missions Systems and Software Engineering team. In this role, you will ensure the appropriate staffing and resources are in place to develop mission systems and software for technology development and transition into production applications.

You will be responsible for mentoring technical leads and team members, as well as coordinating with customers and key suppliers. This position involves developing and executing integrated plans, policies, and procedures, while contributing to business and technical strategies, goals, and objectives.

This role requires frequent interaction with managers and external representatives regarding projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, and contractual clarifications. You will also engage regularly with internal and external management, including senior-level stakeholders.

Position Responsibilities

As a leader in this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and delivery of Phantom Works mission systems and softwarwe for technology development and transition to production applications.
  • Oversee all aspects of engineering technology design and integration, including mission systems and software development, to meet customer requirements with first-time quality, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Drive technology and mission systems and software planning and execution across cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Apply standard performance metrics, including implementation and reporting, to identify issues and proactively mitigate risks.
  • Manage, develop, and retain technology and mission systems personnel.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels, experience mix, and resource availability to meet current and forecasted program requirements.
  • Proactively manage staffing needs, including clearances and emerging skill requirements, to support program execution.
  • Provide updates on performance and progress to the PW Leadership Team, BDS PW Engineering, and the BDS PW Software Leader.

Boeing First-Line Leader Assessment: To be considered for this position you will be required to complete an assessment as a part of the selection process. Failure to complete the assessment will remove you from consideration.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics from an accredited course of study
  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/process management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed Boeing internal course "Exploring Leadership"
  • 5+ years of experience in mission systems and software development and integration
  • Ability to travel as needed, approximately 10%

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working with Department of Defense customers
  • 5+ years of experience with avionics integration and testing
  • 5+ years of experience in proposal development
  • 5+ years of people management experience
  • 5+ years of experience collaborating across multiple programs and organizations
  • 5+ years of experience in project leadership roles
