Job description

Scientific Drilling is looking for a Systems Verification Engineerย to join our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of embedded systems hardware and software, as well as experience with a variety of embedded development tools and technologies.

Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging service company serving customers worldwide. We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems.

Nestled between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the California Central Coast is described as the happiest place on earth. The area features 200+ wineries, fresh air, miles of beautiful beaches, and small-town appeal.

Our Systems Verification Engineer position will work in our Research and Development Department. The Systems Verification Engineer is expected to perform the essential duties listed below. Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform manual, exploratory and regression tests based on specifications.
  • Log defects following defined test reporting procedures.
  • Work independently to investigate system-level bugs and defects to isolate the area of failure.
  • Create test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for each application.
  • Apply analytic skills to solve problems and find/implement effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop effective verification criteria.
  • Create and update repository of internal procedures.
  • Execute scripts for automated testing.
  • Perform other relevant duties based upon business needs.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable about the software development lifecycle and QA processes/methodologies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, results driven environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • High degree of professionalism and a consummate team player.
  • Initiative to improve quality assurance testing methodologies and processes.
  • Ability to diagnose software, hardware, and/or electrical issues.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Pursue every job with drive and determination.
  • Experience with a test management tool and bug tracking system (e.g., TestRail and Jira)

Education, Experience, Certification, and Training:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related discipline. Relevant experience can be substituted for education.
  • 3+ years proven quality assurance experience testing software and/or firmware.
  • Experience designing and developing automated UI tests is a plus.
  • Programming experience (Python and/or Javascript) is a plus.

Manufacturing:

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see , write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 25 lbs. and under, perceive depth, and operate motor equipment.
  • Conditions include working inside. Working around moving objects, machines with moving parts. Working around radiant and electrical energy. Work with heated soldering iron and flux. Working closely with others, working alone, working extended or irregular hours. Working environment may include but not limited to, intermittent noise, fumes, smoke, grease, dust, oils and solvents.
  • Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computer and related equipment, calculator, special instrumentation, hand tools, power tools, air tools, microscope and telephone. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, safety glasses, reinforced toed shoes, gloves, and ear plugs or muffs.
