Position Overview:

As our Mechanical System Design Supervisor, you will provide direct day-to-day supervision and technical leadership for a team of engineers who are matrixed to support projects. Primary activities include planning and tracking of team member work assignments; working with the team to ensure effective execution of work; and overseeing delivery of work products that meet specified quality and technical requirements. In addition, the position involves a strong focus on developing team members and supporting their growth to achieve their individual professional objectives.

Your Day to Day as a Mechanical System Design Supervisor:

  • Build a supportive and collaborative team culture.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the timely execution of assigned activities, which includes tracking assignments of team members (including contractors) and setting task priorities.
  • Ensure team members have the resources to perform their assignments.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable procedures and policies and is consistent with accepted engineering standards and specified requirements.
  • Assist team members with technical problem solving.
  • Facilitate resolution of issues that involve other disciplines/teams.
  • Develop team members through training, mentoring, feedback, and work assignments.
  • Work with team members to identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the Engineering organization and with other interfacing BWXT organizations and external partners/stakeholders.
  • Monitor performance goals and provide feedback to team members.
  • Additional administrative responsibilities include involvement in the hiring process, providing input for cost center budgets, and approval of time charging.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of leadership/supervisory experience.
    • Leadership experience includes positions that involve providing direction to others and schedule as well as responsibility that can be demonstrated by an ability to take the initiative, adhere to deadlines, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Must have demonstrable ability to forge effective working relationships up, down, and across an organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • If required, must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory, project engineering, or project management experience.
  • Familiarity with high temperature gas reactor technologies.
  • Familiarity with the requirements of quality programs such as ISO 9001, AS9100 and/or NQA-1.
  • Experience in the application of Agile methods for new product development.
  • Experience working with U.S. Government customer (e.g., DOD, DOE, NASA).

Pay: $86,000.00 - $136,000.00

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $86,000.00 and $136,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,โ€™ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
