Role Overview
The Clinical Systems Integration Engineer is the technical backbone of Dedicated IT's clinical and integration engagements. This role sits embedded with a client's workflow governance team, turning complex EHR migrations and interface work from plan into production. It owns the connection between clinic operations and system architecture, translating clinical workflow needs into integration decisions, and configuring, testing, and stabilizing the interfaces that keep patient data moving accurately between systems.
The current assignment is an extended engagement supporting a client's AthenaPractice-to-AthenaOne migration. After that engagement, the role moves into Dedicated IT's broader client support rotation, covering ongoing AthenaOne optimization, interface and integration support, and imaging integration work across the client base.
What Success Looks Like
Phase 1: AthenaPractice-to-AthenaOne Migration
The initial engagement, focused on migrating and stabilizing the client's EHR and integration environment.
  • Completes onboarding to the client's AthenaPractice-to-AthenaOne migration, including a full inventory of active interfaces across lab, imaging/PACS, HIE, e-prescribing, patient portal, and clearinghouse connections.
  • Breaks down existing custom integrations into their component parts to determine what carries over to AthenaOne as-is, what needs to be rebuilt, and what can be retired.
  • Applies AthenaOne workflow best practices and industry standards to guide the client's implementation decisions.
  • Rebuilds, tests, and stabilizes interfaces within their area of ownership, bringing each up to a standard that can be supported long-term.
  • Validates migrated data, including patient demographics, scheduling, clinical history, and financial/AR records, against source system records using SQL-based reconciliation.
  • Supports go-live activities, issue triage, and post-go-live stabilization for the migration.
  • Documents interface configurations and workflow patterns in a reusable form for Dedicated IT's internal knowledge base.

Phase 2: Ongoing Clinical Support
Once the migration is stable, the role shifts to a reduced, ongoing support commitment with the original client while expanding into Dedicated IT's broader clinical support work.
  • Moves into a part-time, ongoing support role for the original client while taking on AthenaOne optimization, interface support, and imaging integration work for additional clients.
  • Grows into a dedicated Clinical Device & Imaging Integration specialization within the firm, supporting multiple clients' PACS and medical device interface needs.
  • Contributes engagement learnings, methodology, and tooling to Dedicated IT's delivery playbooks, and trains other consultants as needed.
  • Provides input to delivery leadership on scoping and effort estimation for future clinical support and integration engagements, based on hands-on delivery experience.

Applies working knowledge of AthenaPractice, AthenaOne, athenaClinicals, and athenaCollector to migration and optimization work.
