Job description

Position Overview

Power your Future with Qualus as a Substation Engineering Intern. You'll gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers on projects that strengthen and modernize the electric grid. You'll contribute to real-world substation design projects, assist with engineering calculations and drafting, and learn industry standards, engineering best practices, and utility design principles. Through mentorship, technical training, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, you'll develop the skills and confidence needed to build a successful career in power engineering. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply your classromm knowledge to impactful projects while exploring a future in the utility industry. 

Responsibilities
  • Assist engineers with the design and layout of electrical substations for utility and industrial clients.
  • Support the preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Assist with developing bills of material, equipment specifications, and construction support documents.
  • Participate in design reviews and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes.
  • Attend project meetings and, when applicable, accompany engineers on client site visits.
  • Learn and apply industry standards, company procedures, and engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while developing technical and professional skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Rising junior or senior student with coursework in power systems preferred.
  • Interest in electric utility engineering, including substations, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications; experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn, take initiative, and contribute to real-world engineering projects.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites, as needed, is preferred.
