Role Summary
The Associate Relationship Manager (Associate RM) is a client-facing role responsible for servicing relationships with existing Northern Trust Asset Management institutional investor clients. Associate RMs collaborate closely with Relationship Managers and other key teammates to ensure client satisfaction. This Associate RM role is part of Northern Trust Asset Management's specialized Insurance + Healthcare Practice. An understanding of the unique investing and client servicing needs of insurance companies and healthcare systems is valued.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support client service and business development functions as part of Northern Trust Asset Management's Institutional Client Group, focusing on the specialized investing needs of insurance companies and healthcare systems. Associate RMs occupy critical institutional client-facing roles; working alongside Northern Trust Asset Management's Relationship Managers, Associate RMs share responsibility for activities within their assigned client base and business development territory.
  • Help ensure client satisfaction by organizing and facilitating the efforts of Northern Trust Asset Management's service team, engaging with portfolio management, product management, and other key functions as needed. Navigate Northern Trust Asset Management's internal resources and apply critical thinking skills to ensure timely delivery and issue-resolution, effectively communicating client concerns/needs to teammates.
  • Help Northern Trust Asset Management's Relationship Managers develop a comprehensive understanding of each client's business, governance structure, and investing objectives to ensure alignment between client needs and Northern Trust Asset Management deliverables.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships and tight communication linkages with client contacts and their service providers, serving as a resource-of-first resort to offer timely resolutions to queries, reporting needs, transaction requests, and other client needs. Demonstrate ability to add value by anticipating client needs and proactively recommending appropriate solutions.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the unique and evolving investing considerations associated with insurance company and healthcare system assets. Demonstrate that knowledge confidently when interacting with insurance and healthcare clients, their service providers, and internal Northern Trust Asset Management teammates.
  • Participate in client and prospect meetings as needed, assisting with the assembly of presentation materials and securing/preparing subject-matter experts to assist with discussions.
  • Lead the project management teams involved with onboarding new institutional clients and their investment mandates.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Investment acumen: Ability to gain knowledge of the full range of public and private asset class solutions, including key high-priority Northern Trust Asset Management capabilities, along with awareness of industry trends influencing institutional investor behavior, particularly for insurance general accounts and healthcare system investments.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to listen purposefully and apply problem-solving skills to identify and quickly address client servicing issues. Must be capable of communicating confidently and effectively with sophisticated institutional investors and their investment consultants.
  • Experience: A College or University degree and several years' experience interacting with institutional investors or similar professional contacts. Past experience interacting with insurance company and/or healthcare system entities is preferred.
  • Licensing: Series 7 and 63 required or must be obtained within 90 days.

Salary Range:
$74,200 - 126,200 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
