Department OverviewThe Command Center Software Support Services organization is the team that supports our public safety agencies throughout the world. We are committed to providing services for our customers who use MSI products; allowing them to focus on their mission and enable them to respond faster. Our field teams are focused on providing services and administration of various public safety software products such as 9-1-1 Call Handling, Real-Time Crime Center, Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management Systems, Jail Management Systems and Mobile Data Computing, among other offerings.
Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated student to join our Emergency Management IT team for fall 2026. The candidate will be working closely with System Administrators of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Systems (RMS) in a local government public safety environment.

This 16-week immersive student program offers a unique vantage point into the "nervous system" of public safety. You will gain experience in the full life cycle of emergency data-from the moment a 911 call hits the (CAD) system to its long-term storage and analysis in the (RMS).

Students must reside in the Washington, DC, Virginia, or Maryland Area. This is a hybrid position with onsite days at customer locations.

Detailed Technical Focus:

1. CAD Engineering & Infrastructure:

  • Hardware/Software Integration: Gain hands-on experience with CAD console hardware, peripheral configurations, and multi-monitor UI environments.

  • Environment Management: Assist in maintaining Training/Test and Production environments to ensure 99.999% system uptime.

2. SQL & Data Analytics:

  • Database Management: Utilize Microsoft SQL Server to perform complex joins and data validation.

  • Analysis: Translate raw emergency response data into actionable insights, focusing on response times and resource allocation.

  • Data Integrity: Perform audits to ensure RMS records meet state and federal reporting standards.

3. Security & Compliance:

  • CJIS Standards: Learn and apply Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) security policy requirements.

  • Access Control: Manage user permissions and troubleshoot security bottlenecks within the CAD/RMS ecosystem.

The 16-Week Curriculum:

  • Weeks 1-4: Orientation, IT Onboarding, and CAD User Interface/Hardware Fundamentals.

  • Weeks 5-8: Systems Integration, Environment Management, and Troubleshooting.

  • Weeks 9-12: Transition to RMS, Reporting Fundamentals, and Relational Database (SQL) Introduction.

  • Weeks 13-16: Advanced SQL for Analysis, Security Compliance, and a Self-Selected Technical Capstone Project.

Preferred Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Academic Standing: Must be pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics or a related field of study.

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale preferred.

  • Technical Skills: Basic understanding of Relational Databases (SQL).

  • Familiarity with Windows Server environments and networking basics.

Mentorship & Growth:

This program is designed for Knowledge Sharing. You will be paired with a Senior System Administrator who will provide supervised practical work, allowing you to move from observation to independent troubleshooting.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers

Target Base Hourly Salary Range: $23.00 - $25.00
