Job Title: Database Engineer - Matrix/Hadoop
Duration: 3 Years contract
Location: Reston, VA
Job Responsibilities
• Review and Certify new Versions
• Review and Certify new patches
• Review and Certify new Unix platform Client versions
• Review and Certify new desktop client versions
• Develop and Build Blade logic deployment package for the new Versions
• Work with Desktop Engineering team to design, build and package the rollout of new version clients
• Review with Information Security and Architecture team for security clearance of the new version to be rolled out in client.
• Design, plan and develop process to upgrade from current version to new Version
• Design and provide the plan for migrations to different environment, server and platform
• Design and provide solution for Replication , High Availability and Disaster Recovery
• Enhance security policies, data security controls and processes for compliance
• Build and enhance the operational guideline for management
• Design and provide automation scripts for deployments
• Design and develop Bladelogic Database Automation Package to deploy and rollback database software patches
• Publish quarterly report on Databases versions and patches to Audit Team
• Work with Retirement Delivery Scheduling (RDS) team to retire apps, hardware with upgrades and out of support products. Reclaim or reuse the license costs
• Interact with the product team, understand business requirements and design technical solutions
• Develop new programs, modify existing programs, and prepare functional specifications documents
• Seek and recommend opportunities for process improvement

• On a rotating schedule, provide night / weekend on-call support for mission critical databases. Review all daily on-call reports as needed.
• Perform tuning to ensure database optimization, review preliminary database designs, data analysis, and creation of new databases as needed.
• Write coding/packages as needed to assist IT units.
• Work with users to identify challenges and opportunities for improvement.
• Deploy database patches and upgrades.
• Deploy changes to production as requested.
• Develop work plans for assigned projects.

• One to three (5) years of real-world experience as a DBA or equivalent
• Experience with Matrix/Hadoop

• Previous experience with trading systems would be highly beneficial.
• Experience with SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, RAID, SAN, DTS, ETL.
• Experience administering databases in a clustered environment a preferred.
