Job Description
Leading investment bank has a great opportunity for a Sybase Developer to work on the support, analysis, re-design, coding and testing of relational databases that support FX financial applications. In this role, you will work closely with various business units within FX. You will also have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and special initiatives that include researching new platforms/technologies.
The right person for this role will be familiar with Sybase ASE and have some basic Sybase database administrator skills running on a Solaris/Linux platform. You must also be proficient in UNIX commands and scripting; have knowledge of stored procedures and triggers; with good debugging and investigative skills.
Day to day responsibilities will include:
  • Producing logical data models that model the trading of various financial instruments.
  • Translating logical data models into a physical database design with emphasis on performance.
  • Working alone or with team members on coding stored procedures and trigger (in T-SQL); as well as other programming tasks as defined by the overall system architecture or other specifications.
  • Developing and implementing test plans.
  • Providing secondary production database support.
  • Working with FX application managers on the redesign of the current trading database

Your skills include:
  • Solid experience with Sybase ASE in a Unix environment, specifically Solaris/Linux
  • Investment banking industry experience
  • Solid UNIX scripting knowledge
  • Solid SQL coding skills: stored procedure, triggers, etc
  • Basic understanding of Sybase replication for distributed databases
  • Strong understanding of database design and implementation using SQL DDL and DML
  • Experience with ETL [extract/transfer/load], a plus
  • Familiar with database access via JAVA/C-Sharp, a plus
