Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

A Field Technician is responsible for assisting in start-up commissioning, integration, emergency service and troubleshooting of Vertiv medium voltage electrical switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, plc, meters and other automated devices as well as mechanical repairs and modifications. The FT is required to establish, promote, and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives and others as appropriate. The FT is also required to maintain continuous communication with CRC, Supervisor, and direct manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • A Field Technician is responsible for assisting in start-up commissioning, integration, emergency service and troubleshooting of Vertiv 15KVAC electrical switchgear
  • The Field Technician is required to establish, promote and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives and others as appropriate
  • Ability to evaluate the operating conditions of equipment
  • Ability to interact comfortably with all levels of internal and external customers
  • Must have the ability and self-motivation to manage one's own schedule
  • Perform general and preventive maintenance on switchgear
  • Respond to emergency calls at customer's request
  • Strive to provide all customers a 'first time fix' for their equipment
  • Provide accurate and timely communication to internal and external customers
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with all safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and laws.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of timecards, expense reports, etc.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of hands-on Medium Voltage switchgear or field services is desired 
  • Training in electrical theory and technologies. Experience and/or prior military service performing applicable job duties. 
  • Familiarity with electrical/electronic test equipment and fundamentals
  • Reading schematics and blueprints for power control, automation is desired.
  • Power distribution, AC/DC, Voltage Circuit Theory and practical troubleshooting skills is desired
  • Background in electrical power including medium voltage and experience with most types of switchgear testing is a plus. 
  • Experience with programming PLCs and HMIs is a plus. 
  • Mechanical aptitude 
  • Standard computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Valid driver's license is required
