About Switch

At Switch, we don’t just design, build and operate data centers—we are enabling the technology of the future. Led by Founder & CEO, Rob Roy, we believe in revolutionary innovation, operational excellence and the principle of karma. Switch is where talented people come together to EVOLVE the digital world.

We believe that innovation isn’t just about technology—it’s about the people, culture, and purpose that make it happen. Every Switch team member contributes to a mission greater than themselves: to create the world’s most advanced digital infrastructure that powers the progress of humanity.

The Role: Field Services Engineer I

As a Field Services Engineer I, you will support the installation, validation, and commissioning of infrastructure systems within Switch data center environments. This entry-level role is designed for individuals beginning their field engineering career and provides hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers, construction teams, and contractors.

You will assist with verifying installations, supporting equipment integration, documenting field activities, and confirming that infrastructure systems meet Switch engineering standards. This role combines technical training with practical experience in active construction and mission-critical environments.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist Field Services Engineers with the installation, validation, and commissioning of electromechanical and infrastructure systems.

  • Review construction drawings and project documentation with senior engineers to verify installations meet design requirements.

  • Support field inspections and confirm construction activities align with engineering specifications.

  • Work with contractors and subcontractors to verify installations comply with project plans and quality standards.

  • Assist with hardware integration and equipment installation during construction and infrastructure projects.

  • Support troubleshooting activities and escalate technical issues to senior engineers when appropriate.

  • Participate in testing, validation, commissioning, and documentation of installed systems.

  • Assist in maintaining engineering labs, staging areas, and system buildouts when design modifications occur.

  • Track service metrics, document field observations, and report issues affecting project delivery.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while following Switch safety standards and field procedures.

  • Participate in technical training and continue developing field engineering knowledge and skills.

What We’re Looking For
  • You enjoy learning new technologies and technical systems.

  • You communicate clearly with engineers, contractors, and project teams.

  • You pay close attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate work.

  • You follow established procedures while remaining eager to learn.

  • You work well as part of a team and contribute to shared project goals.

  • You demonstrate reliability, accountability, and professionalism.

  • You prioritize safety and quality in everything you do.

  • You are comfortable working in active construction and mission-critical environments.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Zero to two years of experience in construction, maintenance, operations, technical support, or a related apprenticeship.

  • Basic familiarity with construction tools, equipment, or electromechanical systems.

  • Ability to learn and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and technical documentation.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Reliable transportation.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Preferred

  • Technical training, certification, or coursework in engineering, construction, electrical systems, mechanical systems, or a related discipline.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience working in construction, industrial, manufacturing, or mission-critical environments.

We recognize that qualified candidates may not meet every preferred qualification. If your experience aligns with the core responsibilities of the role, we encourage you to apply.
