Swimwear Designers often work for fashion brands, sports companies, or as freelancers in the industry.

What does a swimwear designer do?

A typical day for a Swimwear Designer involves sketching new concepts, selecting fabrics and trims, and collaborating with pattern makers and sample makers to develop prototypes. Designers often review fit and construction details using sample garments, attend trend research meetings, and participate in team discussions to align collections with overall brand vision. Regular feedback sessions with marketing, production, and merchandising teams ensure that designs meet both creative goals and commercial needs. The fast-paced nature of the fashion industry means multitasking and adapting priorities are common, making each day dynamic and engaging.

We’re looking for a creative, trend-savvy Swimwear Designer to join our growing design team and help shape exciting collections for the Tween / Big Girls market.

This is an opportunity for a designer who understands what today’s young consumer wants—and knows how to translate emerging fashion, color, print, and silhouette trends into fresh, age-appropriate, commercially successful swimwear.

You’ll have the opportunity to be involved throughout the creative process, from researching trends and developing seasonal concepts to creating original designs, executing prints, and bringing products to life. Working alongside a talented bi-coastal design and product development team, you’ll play an important role in shaping each season’s collection.

What You’ll Do

  • Spot the next big trends: Research emerging fashion, color, print, graphics, and silhouette trends with a focus on the Junior, Tween, and children's market.
  • Shape seasonal concepts: Develop inspiring mood boards, color stories, and visual direction that bring seasonal ideas to life.
  • Design with impact: Create original swimwear designs, CADs, technical flats, and colorways using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Make prints come alive: Develop, color, and revise prints and artwork using Adobe Photoshop.
  • Bring a sharp eye to product: Review strike-offs and provide thoughtful color, print, and engraving comments to ensure the final product meets creative standards.
  • Support the design library: Maintain and update body libraries, technical flats, design archives, and other key design resources.
  • Collaborate across teams: Partner closely with Merchandising, Product Development, and Technical Design throughout the product development process.
  • Work across the country: Collaborate with creative and cross-functional partners in both our New York and Los Angeles offices.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field preferred.
  • Experience designing children’s, Junior, Tween, or swimwear apparel; experience with the Big Girls category is a plus.
  • A strong understanding of Junior and Tween fashion trends and the ability to translate them into product that feels current, fun, and age-appropriate.
  • Expert-level Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop skills.
  • A highly developed eye for color, print, graphics, proportion, and trend interpretation.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • A proactive, curious mindset—you take initiative, ask questions, and look for ways to make the product better.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across a bi-coastal team.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for fashion, swimwear, and the opportunity to continue learning and growing as a designer.
