Job description

Reporting to a Director or Sr. Director of Engineering, the Staff Engineer operates across multiple teams and departments as a technical authority for significant portions of our systems that power our digital capabilities and experiences on Caesars.com and Caesars Rewards digital loyalty platforms. These experiences encompass websites, apps, bots, voice, and emerging digital channels focusing on hospitality experiences.
The Caesars Entertainment Ecommerce and Digital Product team delivers exciting digital customer experiences across a wide set of product modalities that fuel the imaginations and eliminates friction for our guests at home, at our resorts, or on the go. Our iconic global brands include Caesars Palace, Eldorado, Flamingo, Horseshoe, The LINQ, Harrah's, Tropicana, Planet Hollywood, Paris, Nobu Hotel, and many more.
The Staff Engineer drives technical strategy alignment, influences roadmaps, and ensures architectural consistency across teams. They handle the most complex technical challenges in their department and establish patterns that become organizational standards. Their decisions shape how dozens of engineers approach problems, connecting millions of customers to our entertainment, dining, shopping, and hospitality experiences.
Responsibilities
  • Cross-Team Architectural Leadership: Drives technical strategy alignment and ensures architectural consistency across multiple teams. Makes decisions that shape how dozens of engineers approach problems. Establishes patterns and standards adopted across the department.
  • Complex Problem Resolution: Handles the most complex technical challenges in the department - large-scale redesigns, distributed system optimization, and new technology paradigms. Serves as the escalation point for novel problems that require deep expertise and creative solutions.
  • Strategic Technical Planning: Identifies and solves problems others haven't seen yet, working from minimal direction. Spots inefficiencies, technical debt, or architectural gaps affecting multiple teams and develops comprehensive proposals with business justification. Translates strategic objectives into multi-quarter technical roadmaps with clear success metrics.
  • High-Leverage Hands-On Work: Writes code regularly, focusing on critical infrastructure, complex algorithms, architectural implementations, and proof-of-concepts. Contributes to the most challenging technical problems, often writing code that unblocks multiple teams.
  • Technology Evaluation: Independently evaluates and introduces technologies and patterns that affect multiple teams. Leads proof-of-concepts and pilots for new tools, frameworks, and architectural approaches. Provides recommendations grounded in practical experience and organizational context.
  • Quality & Standards: Reviews architecture and code across teams, setting quality standards. Drives improvements to engineering practices including testing, observability, security, and deployment patterns at the department level.
  • Mentorship & Technical Growth: Mentors senior engineers and contributes to the technical growth of the department. Shares knowledge through design reviews, technical talks, documentation, and pairing on complex problems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of increasing scope and technical influence.
  • Minimum of 2 years operating at a senior level with demonstrated cross-team architectural impact.
  • Proven track record delivering enterprise-scale systems using modern frameworks and DevOps practices.

  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Quality & Observability: Strong experience with comprehensive testing strategies, static analysis (SonarQube), API testing (Postman), and enterprise monitoring/observability platforms (Dynatrace or similar).
  • Security & Compliance: Solid understanding of application security, data privacy, and compliance standards (PCI DSS, GDPR, etc.).
  • AI & Tooling: Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and emerging engineering productivity technologies including Python-based tooling (FastMCP or similar).
