How much do sweeping jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 1, 2026, the average hourly pay for sweeping in the United States is $16.52, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $18.27 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How do you become a sweeper?

To become a sweeper, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and physical stamina for the job. Experience in cleaning or maintenance can be helpful, and some employers may require training on cleaning tools and safety procedures. Availability to work flexible hours is often necessary.

What is the difference between Sweeping vs Mopping?

AspectSweepingMopping
Tools UsedBroom, dustpanMop, bucket
Work EnvironmentHard surfaces, floors, outdoor areasIndoor floors, tiles, wood
PurposeRemove loose dirt and debrisClean stains and sticky residues
CredentialsNo formal certification neededUsually no certification, but some training

Both sweeping and mopping are essential cleaning tasks. Sweeping is typically used to remove loose dirt and debris from floors, especially in outdoor or hard surface areas. Mopping involves using a wet cloth or mop to clean stains and sticky residues on indoor floors. While sweeping is quicker and requires minimal tools, mopping provides a deeper clean for more stubborn dirt. Both roles are common in cleaning services and maintenance industries, often performed together for comprehensive floor cleaning.

What are some common challenges faced by professional sweepers, and how can they be addressed on the job?

Professional sweepers often encounter challenges such as working in varying weather conditions, dealing with debris that may include hazardous materials, and maintaining efficiency while covering large areas. Addressing these challenges requires proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), staying hydrated and taking breaks as needed, and following established safety protocols. Additionally, effective communication with team members and supervisors helps ensure that any issues—such as equipment malfunctions or unexpected obstacles—are quickly resolved, keeping the work environment safe and productive.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sweeper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sweeper, you need attention to detail, physical stamina, and a basic understanding of cleaning procedures, usually requiring no formal education but sometimes a high school diploma. Familiarity with cleaning equipment like brooms, dustpans, floor sweepers, and occasionally industrial cleaning machines is important. Reliability, time management, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are key soft skills. These skills ensure that environments are kept clean, safe, and presentable, which is essential for health and efficient operations.

What is the highest paid sweeper?

The highest paid sweepers are typically those working in specialized environments such as industrial or commercial cleaning, or those with extensive experience and certifications. Salaries can vary widely based on location, industry, and level of expertise, with some earning over $50,000 annually. Advanced skills and supervisory roles often command higher wages in this field.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

High-paying jobs that can reach $2,000 a day often include specialized roles such as surgeons, anesthesiologists, corporate lawyers, and certain executive positions. These roles typically require advanced education, certifications, and significant experience, and may involve high-stakes environments or freelance consulting in niche markets.

What are sweeping jobs?

Sweeping jobs involve cleaning floors, streets, or other surfaces using brooms, sweepers, or specialized equipment to remove dirt, debris, and litter. These roles are commonly found in commercial buildings, warehouses, schools, and public spaces. The main goal is to maintain a clean and safe environment for everyone. Sweeping jobs can be full-time or part-time and may require working indoors or outdoors, depending on the setting.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

While most sweeping jobs do not typically pay $10,000 a month without specialized skills or experience, some high-paying roles in fields like sales, real estate, or entrepreneurship can reach that level without a formal degree. These roles often require strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and the ability to build a client base or business over time.
