As of Jun 23, 2026, the average hourly pay for sweeper driver in Minnesota is $16.76, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.05 and $16.97 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Do you need CDL for street sweeping?

Street sweeping jobs, including those for sweeper drivers, typically do not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). However, a standard driver's license and a clean driving record are usually necessary, and some employers may prefer or require additional certifications or training for operating specialized equipment. Requirements can vary by employer and location, so it's important to check specific job postings.

What Is a Sweeper Driver?

Sweeper drivers operate street sweeping machines to clean roadways, factories, warehouses, exteriors of buildings, and parking lots. In this role, your job duties include maneuvering the street sweeper along the sides of the road or the pathway of the grounds, using controls to operate brushes and a water sprayer, and dumping the piles of debris that are picked up by the machine. You must also be aware of people, vehicles, or other items that may be in your path and avoid collisions. Sweeper drivers commonly work in shopping centers, factories, and industrial plants, as well as with universities and government agencies.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Sweeper drivers typically do not earn $2000 a day; such high daily earnings are more common in specialized or high-risk roles like certain executive positions, high-level sales, or business owners. Some freelance or entrepreneurial jobs can reach this level with significant experience, skills, or volume, but they are not typical for standard driving roles. Most driving jobs pay hourly or salary-based wages below this amount daily.

What are Sweeper Drivers?

Sweeper Drivers are professionals responsible for operating street sweeping vehicles to clean roadways, parking lots, and other paved surfaces. Their main duties include removing debris, leaves, and litter to maintain clean and safe environments in public and private spaces. Sweeper Drivers must have a valid driver’s license, often a commercial one, and must know how to operate specialized sweeping equipment. They may work for city public works departments, private cleaning companies, or facility maintenance teams. Attention to detail and adherence to safety guidelines are essential in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sweeper Driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sweeper Driver, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), good driving record, and knowledge of operating street sweeping equipment. Familiarity with vehicle inspection protocols, route management systems, and basic mechanical troubleshooting is typically required. Attention to detail, reliability, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These competencies ensure efficient, safe operation, contribute to public cleanliness, and help maintain city standards.

What are some common challenges Sweeper Drivers encounter during their shifts, and how are they typically addressed?

Sweeper Drivers often face challenges such as navigating heavy traffic, working in adverse weather conditions, and encountering unexpected obstacles or debris on roadways. These challenges are typically addressed through thorough training on equipment operation, adherence to safety protocols, and effective communication with supervisors and team members. Many organizations also provide support through regular maintenance of vehicles and clear reporting systems for hazards or mechanical issues, ensuring that drivers can perform their duties safely and efficiently.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A sweeper driver can potentially earn around $10,000 a month through overtime, tips, or working in high-demand areas, especially if they operate large or specialized equipment. However, such earnings are uncommon and typically require extensive experience, a commercial driver's license (CDL), and a strong work schedule. Most drivers earn significantly less without additional incentives or advanced roles.

What is the highest paid sweeper?

The highest paid sweeper drivers typically work in specialized environments such as industrial or municipal settings, where wages can reach above average levels due to experience, certifications, and the complexity of the equipment operated. Salaries vary by region and employer, with experienced drivers earning higher wages, especially if they operate advanced or heavy-duty sweepers. Overall, top earners in this role may make over $50,000 annually.
