Sweden, ME • On-site

Full-time

Posted 19 days ago

Job description

Shape the future of rail and sustainable mobility in Sweden and the Nordics

Arup is growing its Rail business in Sweden and across the Nordic region.

We are looking for an experienced Rail Leader to help lead the growth and delivery of major rail, metro and transport infrastructure projects. This is a unique opportunity to build on more than two decades of work in The Nordics, while helping expand our services to key rail clients across Sweden and wider Scandinavia.

Working with clients and multidisciplinary teams in Sweden and internationally, you will play a leading role in shaping the future of rail and mobility infrastructure while drawing on the expertise of Arup's global Rail network.

As a trusted advisor to clients and project teams, you will help develop opportunities, lead project delivery and build high-performing teams that bring together specialists from across Arup's global Rail network.

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have guided how we shape a better world for over 80 years. Our Rail business is entering an exciting phase of growth in Sweden and the Nordics, supported by significant investment in transport infrastructure and a strong pipeline of rail, metro and major programme opportunities.

The Opportunity

As Rail Leader, you will lead both the growth and delivery of Arup's Rail business in Sweden and support the expansion of our rail activities across the Nordic region.

You will work closely with railway owners, operators, developers, contractors and design partners, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring successful project outcomes in technically challenging and operationally sensitive environments.

You could find yourself working on projects involving:

  • Metro and urban transit systems

  • Mainline and passenger rail infrastructure

  • Rail stations and transport interchanges

  • Rail tunnels and major underground infrastructure

  • Rail systems integration and multidisciplinary design

  • Major infrastructure programmes delivered in live operational environments

As a Rail Leader at Arup, you will:

  • Lead multidisciplinary rail and transport projects and programmes.

  • Act as Project Director, Project Leader and/or Design Manager on complex assignments.

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key rail clients and industry partners.

  • Lead strategic pursuits, bidding activities and client engagement.

  • Develop project delivery strategies and execution plans.

  • Build, structure and lead high-performing project teams.

  • Coordinate specialists across multiple disciplines, geographies and regions.

  • Support the growth of Arup's Rail business in Sweden and across the Nordic region.

  • Bring international best practice, innovation and technical excellence to Nordic rail projects through Arup's global Rail network.

  • Mentor and develop colleagues and future leaders.

  • Promote excellence in project delivery, safety, quality and collaboration.

Why Join Arup's Rail Team?

Arup has been supporting major transport infrastructure projects in The Nordics for decades and has developed a strong reputation through its long-standing involvement in metro, tunnel and multidisciplinary transport projects. Building on our successful relationships we are now seeking to grow our rail presence further across Sweden and the Nordics.

This role offers the opportunity to shape that next phase of growth while remaining closely involved in project delivery. Unlike purely business development positions, this is a true leadership role spanning clients, projects, people and strategy.

Working from Sweden (or Denmark), you will help strengthen Arup's position as a Nordic hub while contributing to opportunities across Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

Does this role inspire you?

We are looking for an experienced rail professional who combines strong leadership skills with a deep understanding of rail project delivery, technical excellence and business growth.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Experience leading complex rail, metro or transport infrastructure projects and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proven track record as a Project Director, Project Leader, Design Manager, Programme Manager or similar leadership role.

  • Experience working with railway owners, metro operators, transport authorities, contractors or consultants.

  • Strong understanding of rail infrastructure delivery across planning, design and implementation phases.

  • Experience building client relationships and winning work.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Ability to build, motivate and lead diverse project teams.

  • Degree in Engineering, Transport Planning, Construction Management or a related discipline.

  • Professional fluency in Swedish, Danish and English.

We welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds, including rail engineering, civil infrastructure, project delivery, programme management, systems engineering and transport planning.
