Sony Pictures

Culver City, CA • On-site

Full-time

Job description

Sony Pictures Television Studios (SPTS) is one of the industry's leading content providers, producing programming worldwide across genres and platforms. As the largest independent TV studio in the industry, SPTS produces 50+ shows each year including THE BOYS, PLURIBUS, SPIDER-NOIR, OUTLANDER, and PLATONIC. SPTS is part of the larger Sony Pictures Television (SPT) division. SPT is a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Group Corporation.
Sony Pictures Television Studios (SPTS) is seeking a highly creative and hands-on Vice President, Creative Director to help shape and elevate the studio's creative marketing output across franchise, brand, social, AV, and campaign creative for scripted television. Reporting to the SVP, Creative Marketing & Content, this role is designed for a modern creative leader with deep entertainment marketing instincts and a strong point of view - someone equally comfortable concepting breakthrough creative, shaping campaign storytelling, and leading multidisciplinary teams through execution. This is not a traditional oversight role. The ideal candidate is a player-coach creative executive who actively develops and elevates work across every touchpoint, from key art and trailers to social-first storytelling, digital content, experiential activations, and emerging platform creative. The ideal candidate brings agency-level creative rigor, strong cultural instincts, and a deep understanding of how premium entertainment brands engage audiences in today's fragmented media environment.
Responsibilities:
Hands-On Creative Leadership
  • Personally shape and elevate creative work from concept through final execution across campaigns, franchise initiatives, and brand storytelling
  • Lead creative development across:
    • Key art
    • AV/promos/trailers
    • Social video
    • Digital and platform-native content
    • Motion graphics
    • Experiential activations
    • Franchise branding systems
  • Lead brainstorms, creative reviews, editorial discussions, campaign development, and creative presentations
  • Bring a strong creative point of view and the ability to push work toward breakthrough, culturally resonant execution
  • Translate strategy into compelling creative ideas with clear audience understanding and platform fluency
  • Operate as both a creative leader and active creative contributor across high-priority projects
  • Maintain a high creative bar across all campaign and franchise work

Franchise & Brand Campaign Leadership
  • Serve as a key creative partner to the SVP, Creative Marketing & Content across all franchise, campaign, and studio brand initiatives
  • Help define and evolve franchise creative identities, visual systems, campaign language, and audience engagement strategies
  • Lead integrated 360 creative campaigns supporting premium scripted series across streaming and linear partners
  • Develop social-first and culturally relevant campaign approaches that authentically engage audiences and fandoms
  • Partner closely with Franchise Management, Marketing, Current Programming, Research, PR, Production, and streaming/network partners
  • Help identify emerging creative trends, audience behaviors, platform opportunities, and new storytelling formats

Social, Digital & Audience Engagement
  • Champion platform-native creative thinking across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, emerging digital platforms, and evolving fan spaces
  • Lead the development of social-first campaign creative designed to drive conversation, engagement, and audience growth
  • Understand how audiences consume entertainment marketing differently across platforms and generations
  • Help shape innovative approaches to companion content, digital originals, influencer activations, fandom engagement, and experiential storytelling
  • Bring strong editorial instincts across pacing, music, visual storytelling, tone, and audience connection

Team Leadership & Creative Culture
  • Lead and mentor internal creative teams across:
    • Design
    • Social creative
    • Creative production
    • External creative vendors/agencies
  • Inspire teams through strong creative ideas, clarity of direction and active engagement in the work itself
  • Create an environment of high creative standards, curiosity, experimentation, accountability and collaboration
  • Provide actionable and creatively ambitious feedback that elevates both concept and execution
  • Lead by example as an active creative contributor, not solely as a manager of process
  • Help establish scalable creative workflows and operational efficiencies within an evolving in-house agency model

Creative Operations & Execution
  • Oversee multiple simultaneous campaigns and creative workstreams in a fast-paced studio environment
  • Partner with operations, production, legal, PR and marketing teams to ensure smooth execution from concept through delivery
  • Collaborate with internal and external production partners across shoots, editorial, graphics, experiential builds and digital execution
  • Help manage agency and vendor relationships as needed
  • Participate in campaign planning, shoot oversight, post-production reviews and strategic creative discussions

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of creative leadership experience within entertainment marketing, streaming, television, creative agencies, studios or related media environments
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating personally developed and creatively led entertainment campaigns across AV, social, design, digital and brand creative
  • Proven experience operating in a fast-paced agency or in-house agency environment managing simultaneous high-profile campaigns
  • Deep understanding of premium television marketing and franchise-building strategies
  • Strong creative authorship and ability to personally shape campaign work across multiple formats and platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to move fluidly between creative strategy and hands-on execution
  • Exceptional creative taste level with strong storytelling instincts and audience understanding
  • Deep understanding of fan culture, social behavior and culturally resonant entertainment marketing
  • Strong editorial instincts across music, pacing, visual storytelling and emotional audience engagement
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary creative teams while maintaining a high level of direct creative involvement
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to articulate creative rationale to executives, filmmakers, creators, talent and partners
  • Experience working directly with talent, producers, showrunners, agencies and studio/network executives
  • Passion for storytelling, entertainment, pop culture, fandom and emerging creative trends

Preferred Experience
  • Entertainment agency background strongly preferred
  • Streaming campaign experience highly preferred
  • Experience leading social-first and platform-native creative campaigns
  • Experience developing integrated AV, design and social creative systems for franchise/IP marketing
  • Familiarity with creative production workflows, editorial pipelines and content creation across multiple formats
  • Experience overseeing creative for experiential activations, fan engagement initiatives and digital content extensions

Leadership Characteristics
  • Creative taste-maker with strong instincts and high standards
  • Hands-on creative thinker and builder
  • Strategic but execution-oriented
  • Collaborative and solutions-focused
  • Calm, decisive, and highly organized under pressure
  • Able to inspire teams while actively elevating the work itself
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with passion for innovation and experimentation
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity while building scalable creative systems and processes
