Job description

Trusts & Estates Attorney (Garden City Office)

We are seeking an Attorney with 5+ years of experience to join our Trusts & Estates practice. The role will primarily focus on estate administration, including Surrogate’s Court proceedings (ex. probate, administration, and accounting) and estate tax matters. The ideal candidate will have experience managing all phases of estate and trust administration while supporting fiduciaries and/or beneficiaries throughout the administration process. Estate planning experience is not required, but preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Represent beneficiaries, executors, and/or trustees in all phases of estate and trust administration
  • Participate in client meetings and advise high-net-worth individuals, families, executives, and business owners on estate administration
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on estate administration, fiduciary, and tax issues
  • Manage Surrogate’s Court calendar and attend Surrogate’s Court proceedings as necessary
  • Collaborate with attorneys across the Trusts & Estates practice to address complex matters

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • License to practice law in good standing in New York
  • 5+ years of experience in trusts and estates, with a primary focus on estate administration
  • Experience reviewing and preparing estate tax returns and familiarity with federal and state estate tax compliance, including representation in audits
  • Estate planning experience, including the drafting of wills, trusts, and related documents, is preferred
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously
  • Experience supervising junior attorneys or paralegals is a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact directly with the Surrogate’s Court, high-net-worth clients, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and counterparties

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $180,000 to $250,000 based on experience. The firm offers a competitive salary based on experience, a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, a retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
