Job description

Distribution and Logistical Services is a diverse group of auxiliary enterprises that provide essential services to students, faculty, and staff, in support of the university's academic mission on the Bloomington campus. We use innovative and sustainable business practices to provide excellent customer service, convenience, and value to the entire university community. Distribution and Logistical Services encompasses Document Services, Campus Mail, Warehouse and Surplus Stores.
  • Under supervision of Full-Time Staff, performs a variety of sales, inventory, receiving and warehouse functions for Surplus Stores and the IU Warehouse.
  • Receives and stores incoming shipments of goods and materials; moves and loads outgoing shipments and customer purchases.
  • Processes all necessary forms or documents.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains university hardware and software systems as needed.
  • Supports, and troubleshoots various local and network printers, scanners, phones, and other associated computing peripherals.
  • Provides customer service serving IU departments and the public in a retail sales environment.
  • Responds to customer needs and requests in-person and via the telephone for Surplus Stores and the IU Warehouse.
  • Serves as a salesperson for Surplus Stores and participates in special projects and special customer arrangements for IU Warehouse, working 1-on-1 with customers of both areas.
  • Replaces stock as sold, takes payment, and helps load into vehicles.
  • Receives incoming shipments of goods and materials for Surplus Stores and the IU Warehouse.
  • Unloads trucks and accepts items based on quality and condition.
  • Reconciles quantities of collected goods and materials with requisition, pick list or pick-up forms.
  • Gathers goods and materials from inventory locations as specified by pick list or requisition.
  • Sorts incoming merchandise for Surplus Stores to determine the best disposition methods for those items and moves the items to designated areas.
  • Coordinates and processes receipts for customers merchandise.
  • Assists department driver on vehicle to make deliveries and pick up materials.
EDUCATION
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
SKILLS
Required
  • Ability to move materials
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation
  • Ability to protect confidentiality
Preferred
  • 1 year of systems support or related experience
This role requires the ability to move up to 50 pounds, and the ability to move a wide variety of items from 1 place to another on a frequent basis, including furniture. This role requires the ability to remain stationary for long periods of time in performing job assignments and moving about the workspace.
