Find your calling at Mercy!Under the supervision of the surgeon, The Surgical Tech First Assist (ST-FA) is a role whichprovidesadditionalassistance to the surgeon in the Operating Room over and above that normally provided. As defined by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), surgical assistants provide aid in exposure,hemostasis, closure, and other interoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safer operation withoptimalresults for the patient.In addition, the ST-FA may perform in the role of the Surgical Technologist in the Operating Room as needed. Coordinates the care of the surgical patient with other team members. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality. Certified Surgical Tech - FA I 

High-School Diploma or GED and Successful completion of a Postsecondary certificate or associate degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited surgical technology program are required. You may be asked to provide proof of education.

First Assist Certification (CSFA) from an accredited Surgical Technologist First Assist Program and American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) are required.   

The Certified Surgical Technologist First Assist I performs the competencies of a First Assist in a single specialty (clinic based).

Surgical Tech - FA (non-certified ST)​

High-School Diploma or GED required.

Non-Certified Route: WIll train the right candidate. 1-2 years of scrub experience required. 
NCCT Route: Successful completion of the Tech in Surgery - Certified (NCCT) exam with certification for LPN and Military candidates. 1-2 Years of scrub experience required. 
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) are required.  

The Surgical Technologist First Assist performs the competencies of a First Assist as outlined in the First Assist curriculum excluding injection for local sedation and inserting urinary catheters. 

Certified Surgical Tech - FA II 

High-School Diploma or GED and Successful completion of a Postsecondary certificate or associate degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited surgical technology program are required. You may be asked to provide proof of education.

First Assist Certification (CSFA) from an accredited Surgical Technologist First Assist Program and American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) are required.   

The Certified Surgical Technologist First Assist II performs the competencies of a First Assist in a multi specialty setting (hospital based)
