Job description

The Technology Apprentice Program is a full-time, 16-week immersive experience designed to cultivate future technical talent in the software engineering and application development space.Through real-world projects, collaborative engagement, and guided development, apprentices will grow their skills, build lasting connections, and confidently launch their careers in technology.

What You'll Do

  • Participate in a comprehensive onboarding experience to equip you with the knowledge, connections, and technical skills needed to thrive within The Cigna Group's technology function.

  • Grow your career through development workshops, trainings, and continued education options

  • Engage and grow within the technology function through hands-on experience solving real-world challenges, deepening your technical skills.

  • Work alongside experienced software and/or application developers to build, test, and maintain applications while developing core technical and professional skills.

  • Engage with peers, mentors, and cross-functional partners through collaborative initiatives.

Qualifications

We're looking for curious, collaborative, and forward-thinking individuals who are eager to grow as technologists and make a meaningful impact across The Cigna Group's diverse technology landscape.

We prefer that candidates meet one or more of the following educational requirements:

  • Completion of an Associate's degree in software development, computer science, or a related technology field

  • Graduation from a technical bootcamp focused on full-stack development, front-end/back-end engineering, or app development

  • Completion of a recognized technical certification from a recognized technical organization/institution (e.g., AWS, Microsoft, Oracle) with hands-on experience applying those skills in real-world projects

Ideal candidates will also bring the following technical competencies and abilities:

  • Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: Java, JavaScript, .NET, Kotlin, Typescript, C#, Python, Go

  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle, version control systems (Git) and basic debugging techniques

  • Basic understanding of programming concepts (variables, loops, functions)

  • Familiarity with web development fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

  • Experience with agile methodologies, team-based development, or open-source contributions is a plus.

Additional Program Information:

  • Location:This is a Hybrid position out of St. Louis, MO. A Hybrid position means that you will be expected to work in-person for at least 3 days (Tuesday, Wednesday & a 3rd day of choice) at your assigned office location, with flexibility to work at home for a balance of time.

  • Schedule: You must be available to work a 40-hour work week beginning October 26, 2026. Working hours are Monday - Friday.

  • Employment Continuation Clause: Employment after program completion is conditional upon: (1) fulfillment of all program requirements, (2) satisfactory performance and competency verification through formal evaluation, and (3) availability of a business need for the position. If these conditions are not met, employment will end at the program's conclusion.

  • Work Authorization: This position is open only to individuals who are eligible for employment in the United States and who would not require visa support including H-1B or CPT/OPT/STEM, etc., now or in the future.

  • Compensation: For this role you'll be paid a rate of $28.85/hr


If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
