About the Role:
New Haven Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is looking for a skilled and dedicated Surgical Assistant to join our dynamic team in East Haven, CT. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment where your skills truly make a difference.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist oral and maxillofacial surgeons during surgical procedures including extractions, implants,
  • Prepare and maintain sterile surgical fields and instrument trays
  • Monitor and support patient comfort and safety before, during, and after procedures
  • Administer and assist with IV sedation and anesthesia protocols under surgeon supervision
  • Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) as needed
  • Maintain accurate patient records and document clinical notes in practice management software
  • Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments and equipment in compliance with OSHA standards
  • Educate patients on post-operative care and recovery instructions
Requirements:
  • Prior experience as a surgical assistant, dental assistant, or oral surgery assistant preferred
  • Knowledge of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures and terminology
  • BLS/CPR certification required; ACLS certification a plus
  • Experience with IV sedation monitoring and anesthesia assistance preferred
  • Dental radiography certification or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent chairside manner with a compassionate, patient-centered approach
