Job description

CityVet Pre-Clinical Program

CityVet is now accepting applications for its Veterinarian Pre-Clinical Program, offering first- and second-year DVM students the opportunity to gain clinical exposure in a veterinarian-led practice environment.

Our Veterinary Student Program is designed to provide early clinical exposure, mentorship, and insight into a supportive, team-first veterinary environment. Students will have the opportunity to shadow experienced veterinarians, observe patient care and clinic operations, and gain valuable exposure to the day-to-day experience of practicing medicine in a modern companion animal clinic.

This program is ideal for students who are eager to learn, build professional relationships, and explore future externship and career opportunities in veterinary medicine.

Program Overview

CityVet early clinical experience provides a structured yet flexible clinical experience in small animal general practice settings, with many locations also offering urgent care exposure.

  • Eligibility: 1st and 2nd -year DVM students at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools
  • Duration: Schedule flexibility to accommodate university rotation requirements
  • Locations: CityVet clinics available across multiple states
  • Housing: Housing is not provided; however, CityVet can share accommodation recommendations from prior externs
  • International students: Eligible if enrolled at an AVMA-accredited university and authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.

What to Expect

Students work alongside experienced veterinary teams and receive exposure that may include:

  • Small animal general practice medicine and surgery
  • Client communication and case management
  • Collaboration with technicians and support staff
  • Exposure to clinic operations and team leadership
  • Mentorship from practicing veterinarians

Student programs are customizable whenever possible, allowing students to align their experience with individual clinical interests and career goals.

About CityVet

Each clinic is locally led by a veterinarian and supported by a centralized home office team, allowing doctors to focus on patient care while maintaining independence in how they practice medicine.

This program is well-suited for students who:

  • Are seeking early clinical experience in a supportive practice setting
  • Value mentorship and professional development
  • Are exploring potential externships, post-graduate employment, or a long-term career fit
  • Want exposure to a veterinarian-led practice model
