Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Team Leader Product Support Engineering at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and directing a team of Electrical Engineers and Technicians that support and maintain electronic components, products, and systems while enhancing existing designs, improving production techniques, improving test procedures, and focusing on project execution.
Essential Functions
  • Directly supervise various levels of design team members by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training and mentoring
  • Work with the Manufacturing, Customer Repair, Quality Assurance, and Product Support teams to identify opportunities for design changes that improve factory capacity, product reliability, and customer experience
  • Work with Purchasing, Component Engineering, and Forecast teams to identify and coordinate solutions for end-of-life components, component shortages, and change notifications from suppliers
  • Coordinate sustainment project planning across the Design Engineering Team, and work with other Team Leads to ensure sustainment work is planned, staffed, and executing to plan
  • Participate in recruiting activities, interview, hire, train, and evaluate performance for the team
  • Participate in design reviews, assuring proper attendees and proper coverage of topics, imparting lessons learned and good design practices to all that attend
  • Ensure the team meets overall design goals in accordance with the product development and sustainment plans or market requirements
  • Ensure the design is partitioned appropriately and assigned to qualified engineers
  • Monitor progress of the design team in meeting product requirements and schedule compliance as well as ensuring appropriate lab and field testing is performed
  • Assist Product Support Engineers and Technicians in performing tradeoff analysis of different circuit options
  • Understand production needs and ensure that engineers are working effectively with the production group as well as facilitating teamwork with other groups inside Garmin (software, mechanical, sales, QA, etc.)

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or related field AND 5 years relevant experience OR a minimum of 10 years relevant experience
  • Excellent Academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes and documentation
  • Knowledge of Garmin's product lines and customer needs
  • Broad technical knowledge and skills in various areas of Electrical Engineering (e.g., analog, digital, RF, and/or DSP)
  • Detailed knowledge and experience with test equipment and software tools for electronics design, testing and documentation
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous leadership or mentorship experience
