Job Description Summary:

The Hospital Supply Tech manages inventory, receiving, and distribution of medical and surgical supplies to support hospital operations. Acting as a liaison between Supply Chain Services, Surgical Services, and Central Processing, this role ensures departments are accurately stocked, surgical cases are prepared, and inventory integrity, safety, and sterility are maintained.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Replenishment: Processes daily replenishment orders using automated supply chain systems, performs cycle counts, rotates stock, and removes expired or damaged items.
Receiving & Logistics: Inspects, unpacks, and verifies incoming packages against purchase orders. Prioritizes urgent overnight shipments and temperature-sensitive/refrigerated items.
Surgical Support: Prepares surgical case carts using preference pick tickets, checks surgery schedules to ensure necessary supplies are available, and resolves item discrepancies.
Departmental Support & Safety: Delivers supplies to hospital floors, restricts unauthorized access to supply areas, maintains storeroom cleanliness/sterility, and participates in year-end physical inventories.Position Responsibilities
  • Receives assignments from Manager/Supervisor and completes all tasks as required by Supply Chain Services policies and procedures. Assists supervisors with the daily departmental operations.
  • Maintains a cordial relationship with all team members and customers. Acts as Supply Chain Service's liaison and resource between Surgical Services, Central Processing Department and other hospital departments, staff members, patients, patient family, visitors and vendors.
  • Assist Central Processing with deliveries to the floors and other daily departmental operations such as; perform inventory replenishment for stock and equipment, process receipts of all supply and equipment received.
  • Performs daily inventory updates and adjustments through cycle counts and the preference list process to maintain established inventory par levels.
  • Utilizes the automated Supply Chain system to process daily replenishment orders for stock and non-stock supplies.
  • Brakes down delivered packages and verifies purchase orders against delivery slips. Verifies quantities against materials received. Notes discrepancies and advise supervisor.
  • Ensures all overnight orders are given priority and delivered promptly to the charge nurse the same day of receipt. Complies with procedures established by management for special overnight orders.
  • Promptly receives and refrigerate packages requiring refrigeration. Handle medical/surgical supplies and equipment on a priority basis as specified and directed by supervisor.
  • Rotates stock ensuring that the oldest stock is next to be used and inspects for expired items and removes expired items from stock. Reports damaged supplies and/or equipment to management and labels appropriately.
  • Assists in performing inventory replenishment process including the proper use of the automated inventory programs for supply replenishment, tissue and equipment tracking.
  • Reviews surgery schedule to ensure that special request items, non-stock and inventory items are available for surgical cases.
  • Confirms inventory by visual inspection. Reviews and reports preference list discrepancies and reports required adjustments to supervisor.
  • Prepares surgical services case carts using the preference card pick ticket. Note discrepancies and notifies supervisor of discrepancies. Insures all case cart documentations are complete.
  • Restricts unauthorized persons from the MM-OR storeroom and Central Processing Departments. Never leave work areas unattended and ensures that at least one co-worker is manning the departments.
  • Maintains MM-OR storeroom sterility, safety and security by wearing appropriate attire, not eating in work areas, and removing all trash and debris daily.
  • Participates in Supply Chain Services formal year-end physical inventories.
  • All other tasks as assigned.

    • At least one year experience in a healthcare setting, preferred.
    • Some experience in warehouse materials handling, preferred.
