Job description


Apex Placement & Consulting is partnering with a manufacturing company in Sterling Heights, MI to identify an experienced Supply Chain Manager. This leadership position will oversee the full supply chain function, including purchasing, production planning, materials, logistics, inventory control, supplier management, and shipping/receiving.

The Supply Chain Manager will have direct interaction with Tesla while also partnering with internal program and customer teams. The position will support Plotter and Bladder programs across both new launches and current production. Previous Tesla experience is highly preferred; strong experience supporting another major automotive OEM will also be considered.

  • Lead all supply chain functions, including purchasing, planning, materials, logistics, inventory, supplier management, and shipping/receiving.
  • Serve as a key supply chain contact for Tesla while collaborating closely with internal program, customer, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Support both new program launches and current production requirements for Plotter and Bladder programs.
  • Manage customer communication regarding material availability, production requirements, schedules, deliveries, and potential supply constraints.
  • Lead, develop, and strengthen an established supply chain team while continuing to build departmental processes and capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer demand, inventory levels, material availability, and manufacturing capacity.
  • Manage supplier performance, including quality, delivery, capacity, lead times, and supply continuity.
  • Identify supply chain risks and implement proactive corrective actions to prevent production interruptions and customer delivery issues.
  • Optimize inventory levels and material flow while maintaining production continuity and inventory accuracy.
  • Utilize Plex ERP/MRP for production planning, inventory management, purchasing, scheduling, and supply chain reporting.
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Finance, and Program Management to support launches and ongoing production.
  • Establish and monitor supply chain KPIs related to inventory, supplier performance, delivery, premium freight, scheduling, and customer requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, operational efficiency, inventory optimization, and supply chain performance.
What we are looking for: 
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Progressive supply chain leadership experience within a manufacturing environment; automotive experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting Tesla is highly preferred. Candidates with strong experience supporting another major automotive OEM will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience managing purchasing, planning, materials, logistics, inventory, supplier management, and shipping/receiving.
  • Experience supporting both new program launches and ongoing production.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop an established team while building processes, structure, and departmental capabilities.
  • Strong ERP/MRP experience; Plex experience is highly preferred.
  • Excellent customer-facing communication, negotiation, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing, production planning, material flow, supplier performance, and inventory control.
