How much do supply chain security jobs pay per hour?
What are the typical challenges faced in a supply chain security role?
Professionals in Supply Chain Security often face challenges such as detecting and mitigating supply chain vulnerabilities, staying ahead of evolving cyber threats, and ensuring compliance with international trade regulations. The role also involves managing the complexity of working with multiple vendors, partners, and internal departments to assess risks and implement security protocols. Keeping up with rapidly changing technologies and global supply chain trends requires continuous learning and adaptability. Successfully navigating these challenges is key to protecting an organization's operations and maintaining business continuity.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in supply chain security, and why are they important?
To excel in Supply Chain Security, candidates typically need a background in logistics, risk management, and cybersecurity, often supported by a relevant degree and experience in supply chain operations. Familiarity with supply chain management systems (such as SAP or Oracle), risk assessment tools, and certifications like Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help professionals identify vulnerabilities and coordinate responses across teams. These competencies are critical as they safeguard company assets, ensure regulatory compliance, and minimize disruptions in increasingly complex global supply chains.
What is supply chain security?
A Supply Chain Security job focuses on protecting products, data, and logistics processes from risks such as theft, cyber threats, fraud, and disruptions. Professionals in this role assess vulnerabilities, implement risk management strategies, and ensure compliance with security regulations. They collaborate with suppliers, transportation teams, and IT security to safeguard the entire supply chain. This role is crucial for maintaining business continuity, preventing financial losses, and protecting sensitive information.

Job description
In this role, you will be part of the team that ensures AWS's supply chain can deliver the datacenter racks, servers, and networking equipment to our datacenters across the globe. The rest of the supply chain looks to us to clear strategic problems and "enable" them to focus on execution. We are the jack-of-all-trades with the best understanding of how the entire end-to-end supply chain works and how to help it run better.
This is a high-judgment role, where you will represent the AWS supply chain during engagements with public sector customers, and must be able to translate customer and regulatory requirements into actionable deliverables, determine what is a true requirement versus a nice-to-have, and understand how to find the balance between cybersecurity and business objectives.
The ideal candidate is a technically savvy individual leader, capable of leveraging AWS's internal business and artificial intelligence tool to gather data and identify risks before they become problems, as well as interact with both internal and external senior leaders to gain support for new initiatives and obtain consensus with AWS customers.
You will be responsible for identifying, creating, and delivering on your initiatives and must have both excellent interpersonal and writing skills to work across myriad teams in the supply chain, security, and legal organizations to deliver results in an ambiguous operating environment. It will be your responsibility to ensure the supply chain delivers on our security and risk management commitments to our customers, as well as make sure region build and operational teams are able to get the infrastructure hardware they need when they need it.
This position requires that the selected candidate already be a U.S
citizen and, after starting, obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph or commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.
Key job responsibilities
- Driving consensus and standardization for acceptable levels of risk and best practices across supply chain operations
- Developing technical solutions that drive automation at scale to ensure datacenter infrastructure is delivered on-time, in-full
- Proactively working with other organizations to anticipate gaps between teams, processes, and system architectures, influencing where no formal reporting structures exist
- Articulating in writing (actual papers, not slides) key issues and strategic initiatives for senior leadership
- Acting as a thought and business leader in the field of cybersecurity, supply chain risk management, and supply chain operations
A day in the life
You are at the intersection of the Venn diagram for security, operations, and risk management, and thus work with a variety of different stakeholders. You will primarily focus on addressing supply chain security and risk concerns for U.S.-based public sector customers to allow the supply chain to operate smoothly, but the team supports our global footprint and you will collaborate with international peers to drive standardization and scalable practices across the global supply chain.
About the team
Our team has the greatest end-to-end view and understanding of AWS's supply chain and sits at the center of the Venn diagram of supply chain security, operations, and risk management
We build bridges with both internal and external customers across those different disciplines to find the right balance between them.
Amazon values diverse experiences, and our team is no different. You will join a team with members in different countries, backgrounds, and perspectives. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply
If your career hasn't followed a traditional path or includes alternative experiences, don't let it stop you from applying.
We value work-life harmony. Achieving success at work should never come at the expense of sacrifices at home, which is why we strive for flexibility as part of our working culture. When we feel supported in the workplace and at home, there's nothing we can't achieve in the cloud.
Here at AWS, it's in our nature to learn and be curious
Our employee-led affinity groups foster a culture of inclusion that empower us to be proud of our differences. Ongoing events and learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon conferences, inspire us to never stop embracing our uniqueness.
We're continuously raising our performance bar as we strive to become Earth's Best Employer. That's why you'll find endless knowledge-sharing, mentorship and other career-advancing resources here to help you develop into a better-rounded professional.
