How much do supply chain network optimization jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 9, 2026, the average hourly pay for supply chain network optimization in the United States is $25.15, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.23 and $28.37 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Supply Chain Network Optimization, and why are they important?

To thrive in Supply Chain Network Optimization, you need strong analytical skills, a background in supply chain management or industrial engineering, and proficiency in data analysis, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with optimization software (such as Llamasoft, SAP APO, or JDA), advanced Excel, and knowledge of modeling tools or programming languages like Python or SQL are typically required. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills help professionals excel in this role. These skills are crucial for designing efficient, cost-effective supply chain networks that respond to dynamic market demands and drive business success.

What is supply chain network optimization?

Supply chain network optimization is the process of designing, analyzing, and improving a company's supply chain structure to maximize efficiency and minimize costs. This involves strategically determining the locations of factories, warehouses, and distribution centers, as well as optimizing transportation routes and inventory levels. By using advanced analytics and modeling tools, businesses can create supply chain networks that meet customer demands while reducing operational expenses and response times. The goal is to ensure products move smoothly from suppliers to customers with the least amount of wasted time and resources.

What is the difference between Supply Chain Network Optimization vs Supply Chain Analyst?

AspectSupply Chain Network OptimizationSupply Chain Analyst
Primary FocusDesigning and improving supply chain networks for efficiency and cost reductionAnalyzing supply chain data to identify trends and improve processes
Required SkillsSupply chain modeling, logistics, data analysis, optimization toolsData analysis, reporting, Excel, supply chain concepts
Work EnvironmentStrategic planning, cross-functional teams, often in corporate or consulting settingsOperational analysis, data-driven tasks, often in logistics or manufacturing firms

Supply Chain Network Optimization focuses on designing and enhancing entire supply chain networks to improve efficiency and reduce costs, often involving complex modeling and strategic planning. In contrast, a Supply Chain Analyst primarily analyzes data to identify operational improvements within existing processes. Both roles require strong analytical skills, but Network Optimization is more strategic and technical, while the Analyst role is more data-focused and operational.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals in Supply Chain Network Optimization, and how can they be effectively addressed?

Professionals in Supply Chain Network Optimization often encounter challenges such as balancing cost efficiency with service level requirements, managing disruptions or variability in demand, and integrating new technologies or data sources. Addressing these challenges often involves leveraging advanced analytics, fostering strong cross-functional collaboration (especially with IT, logistics, and procurement teams), and staying adaptable to rapidly changing market conditions. Building strong problem-solving skills and maintaining open communication channels within the organization can help ensure that optimization efforts support both short-term needs and long-term strategic goals.

Your role at Clorox:
This role supports the Network Optimization team by executing cost modeling and network optimization analyses that drive margin improvement and operational efficiency. The position is responsible for delivering accurate, timely models and insights, preparing clear project deliverables, and supporting senior team members on more complex optimization initiatives. Success is measured through model quality, implementation impact, project delivery timeliness, and contributions to continuous improvement. This role builds foundational expertise in advanced modeling techniques while strengthening the team's overall analytical capability.
In this role, you will:
Conduct standard network design and cost modeling analyses, using Coupa Supply Chain Guru to evaluate transportation flows, facility footprints, sourcing strategies, and least landed cost scenarios, leverage Data Guru for data transformation and model preparation.
Assist in data collection and initial analysis processes using Data Guru and other ETL tools to structure large operational datasets, validate inputs, reconcile discrepancies, and ensure modeling readiness
Prepare detailed project reports, dashboards, and executive-level presentations summarizing modeling assumptions, scenario comparisons, cost impacts, and recommendations, including creation of visual insights in Power BI
Support senior team members in complex modeling tasks, including multi-echelon network optimization, scenario design, sensitivity analyses, and validation of advanced modeling assumptions in Supply Chain Guru.
#LI-Hybrid
What we look for:
  • 1-2 years of experience in Supply Chain, Operations Research, Network Modeling, or related analytical fields
  • Hands-on experience supporting network modeling or cost-to-serve analyses in a global or multi-site environment
  • Experience with data management, ETL tools, and structured analytical workflows (e.g., Data Guru or similar)
  • Ability to support cross-functional projects with Logistics, Procurement, Finance, or Business Units
  • 3-5 years of experience in supply chain analytics, network optimization, or transportation/warehousing cost modeling
  • Experience using Coupa Supply Chain Guru for network design, optimization, or least landed cost analysis
  • Experience with Power BI or similar visualization tools for business insights
  • Background in multiyear planning, scenario modeling, or strategic supply chain assessments
  • Experience presenting insights to senior leadership or executive teams
  • Foundational proficiency in network modeling, optimization, and supply chain data structures
  • Basic financial and business analytics skills, including cost modeling and KPI interpretation
  • Ability to communicate analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to quickly learn new modeling methodologies, tools, and analytical frameworks
  • Strong attention to detail in data validation, scenario setup, and documentation
  • Advanced modeling capabilities in Supply Chain Guru, including optimization and scenario design
  • Ability to translate complex analytics into clear business recommendations and executive-level presentations
  • Proficiency in Power BI (data modeling, DAX, dashboards) to visualize network and cost modeling results
  • Experience querying and structuring large datasets using Data Guru or similar ETL tools
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive alignment on assumptions and actions
  • Ability to anticipate data/modeling needs and proactively improve processes, tools, or methodologies
