TITLE: Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Grades PK-3
REPORTS TO: School Principal or Other Assigned Immediate Supervisor
JOB GOAL: To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and
available resource materials; To contribute to the efficient operation of a school office so that it can play its effective part in the education process;
and, To assist in providing safe transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantages from Ohio County Schools curricular
and extra-curricular programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
โ€ข Possess ECCAT Authorization as required by law.
? Current ECCATs with Permanent Authorization must take ECCAT Numeracy and ECCAT Literacy
? One class must be taken a year
โ€ข High school diploma or equivalent.
โ€ข Pass the approved West Virginia Service Personnel Tests for School Aide.
โ€ข Completion of a successful background check.
โ€ข Basic word processing skills preferred.
โ€ข Be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
โ€ข Be able to prepare reports and perform required bookkeeping procedures.
โ€ข Possess computer skills to include competency in work processing, date management and spread sheets.
โ€ข Experience and training with toileting, catheterization, aspiration techniques and other special needs as needed.
โ€ข Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as an Aide in any one or all of the following areas: Teacher Aide, Clerical Aide, Special Education Aide, and/or Bus Aide.
โ€ข This job is classified as requiring a medium-heavy work capacity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
โ€ข Adhere to all federal, state, and district laws and policies.
โ€ข Promote and adhere to the district mission, core beliefs, academic goals, and target areas.
โ€ข Prepare student attendance reports.
โ€ข Provide and collect workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction.
โ€ข Collect and record collection of money.
โ€ข Read to students and participate in other forms of oral communications with students.
โ€ข Administer, score, and record such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
โ€ข Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
โ€ข Help student's master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
โ€ข Operate and care for classroom and office equipment including computers.
โ€ข Assist with lunch, snack and clean up routines.
โ€ข Assist with toileting and wash-up routines of both males and female students, which may include catheterization, associated lifting, aspiration techniques, and other special needs as required.
โ€ข Assist with dressing and undressing of both male and female students.
โ€ข Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
โ€ข Type a variety of materials such as letters, student records, reports and memos.
โ€ข Demonstrate the ability to remain and respond calmly and objectively to a variety of situations.
โ€ข Provide a variety of behavior management techniques in a crisis situation before resorting to passive restraint.
โ€ข Exhibit the physical attributes to passively restrain both male and female students over an extended period of time.
โ€ข Display the ability to physically control adolescent male and female students.
โ€ข Assist with maintaining a structured learning environment through appropriate organization of time, space arrangements, material organization.
โ€ข Implement established rules, instructions, preventive discipline, and other environmental stimuli to bring about significant changes in student functioning.
โ€ข Implement social, tangible, token activity, and other contingency environmental stimuli to manage behavior and bring about behavior changes.
โ€ข Follow lesson plans developed for instructional, social academic and emotional skills and objectives.
โ€ข Assist with modifying curriculum materials.
โ€ข Assist the teacher, other staff members or administration in working with students.
โ€ข Provide input into planning and scheduling.
โ€ข Participate in staff development training for the purpose of enhancing skills.
โ€ข Assist in keeping accurate and efficient records.
โ€ข Be cognizant of special education characteristics.
โ€ข Provide a positive role model for students.
โ€ข Apply humor, joy and enthusiasm under appropriate circumstances.
โ€ข Self-evaluate personal and job related characteristics on a regular basis and take corrective action if needed.
โ€ข File correspondence, invoices, cards or other records in prescribed manner, depending upon the practice of the school to which assigned.
โ€ข Maintain records and prepare reports as directed including bookkeeping procedures.
โ€ข Assist the secretary in various office duties as assigned.
โ€ข Keep prompt hours.
โ€ข Be courteous to callers at all times.
โ€ข Assist the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
โ€ข Assist young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus.
โ€ข Assure that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
โ€ข Provide written report of violations relative to discipline to the Principal of the School.
โ€ข Collect and turn over to the appropriate school secretary those personal items left on the bus by students.
โ€ข Report to assigned school, after completing bus run.
โ€ข Supervise the use of assistive devices (i.e. crutches, canes, walkers, braces, wheelchairs, seat belts).
โ€ข Assist with emergency management.
โ€ข Assist with evacuation procedures.
โ€ข Implement special IEP services.
โ€ข Communicate effectively and openly with teachers, administration, other staff members and students.
โ€ข Communicate and establish positive relationships with parents.
โ€ข Maintain complete and accurate records.
โ€ข Attend first aid classes as required to maintain certification.
โ€ข Maintain and/or upgrade skills.
โ€ข Maintain positive work habits.
โ€ข Perform duties efficiently and productively.
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Immediate Supervisor, Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent.
