SUPERVISOR, MAINTENANCE AND FACILITIES Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing Environment

SUMMARY The Supervisor, Maintenance and Facilities oversees all maintenance and facility operations across the organization, including building systems, grounds, production equipment, non production equipment, and supporting infrastructure. This role plans, budgets, and schedules facility modifications and capital improvements while managing labor, materials, equipment, and operational costs.

The successful candidate leads both Maintenance and Facilities functions with a strong focus on safety, reliability, operational efficiency, and team development. This position manages hourly maintenance personnel and ensures department objectives align with broader company performance goals.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Maintenance Leadership - Supervise and lead hourly maintenance mechanics and facilities personnel including goal setting, training, performance management, coaching, scheduling, and safety compliance.
  • Facility Planning - Direct preparation of specifications, layouts, drawings, and cost estimates for facility requirements and improvements.
  • Operational Management - Plan, organize, and administer Maintenance and Facilities systems, procedures, budgets, controls, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Regulatory Compliance - Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and OSHA regulations.
  • Procurement Oversight - Oversee purchasing of plant non inventoried materials and facility related supplies.
  • Preventive Maintenance - Administer and maintain preventive maintenance programs including development and execution of PM schedules.
  • Vendor Coordination - Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
  • Technical Troubleshooting - Lead diagnosis and resolution of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic equipment failures.
  • Tool and Instrument Use - Utilize tools and measurement instruments including micrometers, calipers, voltmeters, metrology equipment, power tools, and machine shop equipment.
  • PLC and HMI Support - Program (preferred) and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems using ladder logic and diagnostic tools.
  • Process Improvement - Recommend and implement process improvements and support employee training initiatives.
  • Facility Maintenance - Maintain working knowledge of carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, drywall, painting, masonry, and facility repair practices.
  • Contract Management - Manage service contracts and vendor relationships including HVAC, landscaping, electrical, plumbing, janitorial, MRO suppliers, industrial services, and equipment providers.
  • Utility and Safety Systems - Serve as primary contact for utility providers, fire and life safety systems, and security service partners.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration - Work closely with Quality, Production, EHS, IT, Finance, HR, and Operations to support business objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • In lieu of a degree, 10 or more years of progressive experience in facilities and machinery maintenance may be accepted.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in maintenance and facilities operations, including at least 7 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong working knowledge of maintenance methods, materials, and equipment used in industrial machinery repair including NC and CNC equipment, lathes, mills, presses, and related systems.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and perform calculations related to maintenance operations.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and maintenance documentation systems.
  • Effective leadership, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical and environmental requirements of the role.
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience supervising hourly maintenance personnel.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or highly regulated industries.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
