How much do supercomputer jobs pay per hour?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Supercomputer position, and why are they important?
To thrive as a Supercomputer Engineer, you need expertise in high-performance computing (HPC), computer architecture, parallel programming, and advanced mathematics, often supported by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as MPI, OpenMP, Linux systems, and certifications like Certified HPC Professional can be critical. Strong problem-solving abilities, collaboration, and communication skills set exceptional candidates apart in multidisciplinary environments. These competencies are essential for building, optimizing, and managing supercomputing resources that drive scientific discovery and innovation.
What are the typical responsibilities of a Supercomputer Engineer on a daily basis?
Supercomputer Engineers are responsible for designing, configuring, and maintaining high-performance computing systems to support complex computations in fields such as scientific research, weather modeling, and data analytics. On a daily basis, they might monitor system performance, troubleshoot hardware or software issues, optimize code for scalability, and collaborate closely with researchers and IT professionals to ensure workloads run efficiently. Additionally, they often assist in upgrading systems and implementing the latest technologies to maximize computational power. Working in this role offers opportunities for ongoing professional development and cross-functional teamwork, making each day both challenging and rewarding.
What is a Supercomputer job?
A Supercomputer job typically involves working with high-performance computing (HPC) systems to process complex calculations at extremely high speeds. Professionals in this field may develop software, optimize system performance, manage hardware infrastructure, or support scientific and engineering research. These roles are common in fields such as climate modeling, artificial intelligence, biomedical research, and financial simulations.

Department:19020000 - EG-MECHANICAL - AEROSPACE ENG
Classification Title:
RES AST SCTST
Classification Minimum Requirements:
PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical engineering, or a closely related field e.g., nanoscale transport phenomena.
Job Description:
The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) at the University of Florida is soliciting applications for a full-time, nine-month, time-limited, non-tenure-track research assistant scientist position in the Kidambi Research Group - https://pirankidambi.wixsite.com/kidambiresearchgroup
We are looking to add a highly motivated and enthusiastic assistant research scientist with a can-do attitude, a strong passion for research and engineering excellence to our growing inter-disciplinary team comprising of Mechanical, Chemical, Material Science, and Electrical Engineers, as well as Applied Physicists.
The group conducts fundamental research on nanoscale mass-transport by leveraging the convergence between i) in-situ metrology, ii) bottom-up synthesis of nanostructures, and iii) process engineering for energy and healthcare applications. Specifically, we leverage atomically thin (2D) materials as ideal model systems to probe nanoscale mass transport at the extreme limits of length scales.
The successful candidate would conduct experimental research, prepare detailed scientific reports, and publish papers in top tier peer reviewed international journals. Specific focus areas are on understanding highly selective transport of sub-atomic/atomic/molecular species at the extremes of length-scales, fundamental insights into the mechanisms governing bottom-up synthesis of nanostuctured materials for atomic-scale control to enable rapid and highly selective transport, and development of strategies to realize functional devices to enable practical applications.
The candidate is expected to actively identify, contribute towards data curation, writing, and submission of federal/state/foundation funding grant applications with the eventual goal of moving towards principal investigator status on grants. Candidate is also expected to provide some level of day-to-day supervision for undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory as well as work with academic/industrial collaborators.
Expected Salary:
Salary is commensurate with education and experience
Required Qualifications:
PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical engineering, or a closely related field e.g., nanoscale transport phenomena.
Preferred:
Post-doctoral experience and high impact peer reviewed publications are preferred. Experience with experimental research with nanomaterials, and nanoscale transport and grant writing is also preferred.
Special Instructions to Applicants:

About University of Florida
Sourced by ZipRecruiter
The University of Florida is one of the top ranked public universities in the United States (ranked top 5 amongst public universities in 2023 US news and world report). It is one of only a few comprehensive universities, having medical, veterinary, dental, nursing, public health, and engineering disciplines all co-localized on the same, contiguous campus to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration. Gainesville is located in the northern region of Florida, within 1-1.5 hours of each coast, and just 1.5-2 hours to Orlando and Tampa. It is a small to medium-sized city with a low cost of living, excellent public and private schools, and southern hospitality. While Gainesville is widely recognized as the home of the Gators, it is quickly becoming known as a center for innovation and a place with a lifestyle that's comfortable for families, yet attractive for young professionals.
