How much do sun air express pilot jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 13, 2026, the average yearly pay for sun air express pilot in the United States is $130,916.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $100,000.00 and $155,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is there still a pilot shortage in 2026?

The airline industry continues to experience a pilot shortage, including regional carriers like Sun Air Express, due to increased travel demand and a retiring pilot workforce. This shortage has led to higher hiring rates and a focus on training and certification for aspiring pilots.

What is a Sun Air Express Pilot job?

A Sun Air Express Pilot operates regional flights for Sun Air Express, a commuter airline that provides scheduled passenger service to various destinations. Pilots are responsible for safely operating aircraft, following flight plans, and adhering to FAA regulations. They typically fly smaller regional aircraft and may serve as either a captain or first officer. The role includes pre-flight inspections, communicating with air traffic control, and ensuring passenger safety. This position is often an entry point for pilots looking to gain experience before moving to larger airlines.

What does a typical day look like for a Sun Air Express Pilot?

A typical day for a Sun Air Express Pilot involves conducting thorough pre-flight inspections, reviewing flight plans and weather conditions, and coordinating closely with ground and cabin crew to ensure safe departures and arrivals. Pilots are responsible for operating short-haul flights between regional destinations, often requiring multiple takeoffs and landings in a single shift. The role demands adaptability to changing schedules and conditions, adherence to safety protocols, and consistent communication with air traffic controllers. Working as part of a close-knit flight operations team, Sun Air Express Pilots must balance efficiency with safety to provide timely and reliable service to passengers.

How do pilots call in sick?

Sun Air Express pilots typically notify their airline's scheduling or crew management department as soon as possible to report illness. They may need to follow specific procedures, such as submitting a formal sick leave request and providing any required documentation, in accordance with airline policies and FAA regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Sun Air Express Pilot position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sun Air Express Pilot, you need a commercial pilot’s license, strong flight experience, and a thorough understanding of aviation regulations and procedures. Proficiency with aircraft-specific avionics, navigation systems, and flight planning tools is essential. Excellent decision-making, communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help pilots excel in both routine and unexpected situations. These competencies are critical for ensuring passenger safety, operational efficiency, and adherence to strict industry standards.

What pilots make $500,000 a year?

Sun Air Express pilots typically do not earn $500,000 annually; such high salaries are rare in regional airline roles. Top airline pilots, especially those with seniority, extensive experience, and additional certifications, can reach high six-figure incomes, but earning $500,000 is uncommon and usually involves additional bonuses, profit sharing, or flying for major international carriers. Most pilots' salaries depend on experience, aircraft type, and airline size.

How long does it take to make $200,000 as a pilot?

Sun Air Express pilots typically earn an hourly wage that, combined with flight hours and experience, can lead to earning $200,000 annually after several years. Reaching this income level generally requires accumulating significant flight hours, seniority, and experience with regional or commuter airlines, often taking 5-10 years. Factors such as schedule, aircraft type, and company pay scales influence the timeline.
