Job description

Overview
Sumter Utilities, Inc. has an opening for an Assistant Controller. Sumter Utilities is based in Sumter, SC and is a subsidiary of Quanta Services, Inc. Sumter Utilities provides high-quality electrical construction, maintenance and modification services of transmission lines, distribution lines and substations to customers throughout the southern US. This position reports to the Controller.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Assist the Controller in the preparation and submission of monthly financial statements, Quanta supplemental financial reports and variance analysis.
  • General Ledger & Close: Manage the general ledger, account reconciliations, and the timely close of books.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish and maintain internal control procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX and Quanta mandated regulations.
  • Audit Management: Act as a liaison with internal and external auditors and prepare necessary documentation for annual audits.
  • Supervision: Oversee day-to-day operations of Accounting, AP, and Payroll staff, including training and evaluation.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of monthly financial forecasts and annual business plan.
  • Process Improvement: Analyze current accounting procedures and recommend improvements for efficiency

Other Responsibilities
  • Manages accounting software and troubleshoots issues with support.
  • Cross-train with Controller on key tasks and duties.
  • Continually evaluate processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Willingly accept assignments or special projects as assigned which may vary as determined by SUI management or Quanta directives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or related field
  • CPA or CPA track preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Excel proficiency, including pivot and v-look up tables
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
